What-if?

I picked up my what-ifs yesterday,
Took a good look at the list All the things I could have done,
All the things that I have missed.
I still can't quite say,
What it was that got in the way,
But, I know, I had to play,
That dangerous game we played.

I picked up my what-ifs yesterday,
And I found myself thinking,
Where I could be now,
How I could be feeling,
And I know I can't blame you,
For blame is like a game,
Pinned on the wrong person,
We'd all go insane.

I picked up my what-ifs yesterday,
Took a travel through time,
Found a thread of mystery here or there,
The odd uncanny rhyme,
Yet I couldn't find us, I couldn't find you,
Sometimes I wonder what happened to us two.

I picked up my what-ifs yesterday.
Then made a decision,
To learn from the past, yet look to the future,
For everything is not lost.
When I picked up my what-ifs yesterday,
I started a new list.
