"He looks like one mean other-frakker" Tigh commented, gazing in through the bars at the man who sat still, statue-like on the hard, metal surface of the cells single bed. It used to have a thin, almost worthless mattress covering it, that now lay discarded on the floor at the man's feet.
Rumour had it, the stranger actually slept easily on the harsh, cold metal of the bunk, almost as if he was used to it, welcomed it.
"What is he?"
"Well…" Baltar stuttered, and then shrugged, "I'm not sure. The cylon test came back conclusively, he isn't a cylon. However, he isn't human either, or at least, not as we know it"
"What do you mean by that?" The colonel gruffly asked, whilst behind him, Commander Adama gazed silently, assessingly at the being with the sharp, harsh face, the expressionless eyes and the very determined set to his body.
"There are some indications of genetic tampering"
That brought a response, but only slight, so slight Adama wondered if he had just imagined it. But no, the news of genetic tampering wasn't news… to the stranger at least. It also appeared to be a sore spot, if it came to interrogation that could be useful.
Besides, any kind of genetic modification was illegal, both by civil and religious law, that made the subject of it an outcast, an exile. Under current circumstances, exile meant death.
He would talk, or he would taste vacuum, there was certainly a recent precedent for that.
"Listen Son," Tigh stepped forward, menacingly, "I don't know who you are or how you came to be aboard this ship, but we are at war and if I don't start to get some answers soon, you will taste vacuum"
Adama stepped forward, voicing his first words since stepping into the room at the beginning of the interrogation, "Colonial Law does not give you the right to withhold your name or rank if you hold one. I would also remind you that the laws on genetic tampering favour a scorched earth policy towards both the offender and the subject"
The man snorted, his head turning the exact minimum amount, almost machine like to face Adama, "Don't talk to me about the law, I am the law"
"Not here son," Tigh responded, a victorious look in his eyes, "your name, now!"
"Judge Joseph Dredd, Mega-City One and you are under arrest for the illegal detention of an official of the law"
"Mega-city One?" Baltar frowned, "I have not heard of such a place, what world was it on?"
The look Dredd shot Baltar was glacial, so much so Adama was forced to check see if Baltar had been turned into a block of ice. He hadn't, yet.
There was a pause, then, "You have GOT to be kidding me" Tigh commented, disgusted.
