Sometimes they have to hotwire a car to do their job. They don't call it stealing, even though it probably really is, because they only use the car to get from point a to point b and then they're done with it. And even then, they never steal one too close to wherever their coming from, or ditch to close to where their going, because that would be stupid.

And their not stupid. If anything, they're not that.

They never steal anything but money – and lives, of course, but that's a different matter, since by taking these lives their saving others, so does it really count? – when they do it. It confuses the FBI – except not Smecker, who knows them, but he doesn't say anything about them, hasn't and won't – because all serial killers – and by now, that's what they're called, because they've killed so many people, even if they are all bad guys – have some kind of memento of their kills, some way to remember them by.

What the FBI don't know – well, they don't know a lot, but one of the things – is that they'll always remember the people that they take out, even if they don't remember a name – which they may or not have ever known in the first place – but they'll always remember the crime the person had committed – which is what gets them killed, anyways.
