Sasuke never knew what it meant to be happy. He never had any relatives to love and take care of him. Sad isn't it?
Itachi. He who is he. The raw reason why he's like this.
Being happy was not likely for a boy like him. It isn't as simple as it seems. It isn't as simple as breathing…
But Sasuke is older now; he has his wife, which he loves very much, and those charming brats with him. He realized that life can also be quite enjoyable when you have the ones that you love and care for around. When you know that you have someone to protect and live for. Someone…
Still. Sometimes, people or things try to take life away from you… and it's hard, so very hard to stop them. Even breathing is hard sometimes. Sasuke knows. Occasionally, he would hear the catch of Sakura's breath as she lies prone on their bed. And as if, no, because they are one, he feels her pain like it is his own.
Sakura's ill now, worse than she has ever been. They've shared four blissful years together and he doubts that there will ever be a fifth. Although he prays. He prays real hard for her to live longer. For him and for their children.
Going straight home from work, he opens the shoji leading to their room and finds a sleeping Sakura lying on their bed. She looked almost perfect. As if nothing is wrong. Like an angel sleeping peacefully, beautifully on her throne. One couldn't really tell she has an illness.
Sasuke lies down next to her, his forehead pressing against her own, one arm wrapped around her waist protectively, possessively, as if someone would take his angel away from him. Slowly, he reaches for her hand, so small compared to his. And their fingers intertwine.
He wanted the pain within her be a part of him. So he watches and observes. Sakura's chest rises and falls in a steady, comforting rhythm. Sasuke tries to harmonize with her. Breath to Breath. Heartbeat to Heartbeat.
And they become one.
A content smile crept upon his features. Sasuke has learnt a different kind of happiness these past few years. Their children's smile and Sakura's gentleness; sunshine on a winters day. These things, beautiful and fleeting… but forever; are all he needs.
He won't allow her leave them yet. No. Not today, not tomorrow, she will be with them forever. There are still so many things that is needed to be done, words yet to speak and feelings just waiting to unfold. Sasuke closes his eyes…
For his happiness…
