This is my first songfic, so I don't know how well it went. The song is from Final Fantasy III. Celes sings it in the opera part. I thought of a story to go with this, and I might post it up later. After I'm finished typing it.
Oh my hero, so far away now.
Will I ever see your smile?
A blonde woman walked slowly through the gates of the cemetery. A bundle of flowers was held firmly in her left hand. She stopped and glanced around, her eyes finally resting on an all too familiar tree.
Love goes away, like night into day.
It's just a fading dream.
The sun was setting, casting long shadows and tinting everything in red. A splash of light fell on the stones at her feet and she looked away. It made her think of blood. His blood.
I'm the darkness, you're the stars.
Our love is brighter than the sun.
Above the woman, a few stars were visible in the darkening sky. She glanced quickly at them; he always liked looking at stars. He'd once said, in a moment of unusual seriousness, that the stars were the souls of the dead. She closed her eyes briefly and hurried down the path towards the tree.
For eternity, for me there can be,
Only you, my chosen one…
The woman walked into the fading shadow of the tree and stopped. Nestled in the roots of the tree was a single, simple gravestone. A thin ray of blood-red light shone on it, illuminating the name.
Must I forget you? Our solemn promise?
Will autumn take the place of spring?
The blonde woman sat next to the cold stone and stared out at the sky. The tree was on a hill, giving it a view of the sky and, far in the distance, the ocean. It had been one of his favorite places. A cool, autumn breeze blew past her, rustling the dead leaves still clinging to the tree.
What shall I do? I'm lost without you.
Speak to me once more.
She leaned against the stone and closed her eyes. If she concentrated, she could almost hear one of his stupid jokes. She felt a prickling sensation begin at the corners of her eyes and had to blink several times to keep it at bay.
We must part now, my life goes on.
But my heart won't give you up.
"Come back." She whispered. They kept telling her to move on, that he was gone. The tears escaped her eyes and rolled down her cheeks.
Ere I walk away, let me hear you say
I meant as much to you…
Night had truly fallen before the woman stirred again. She stood and glanced out at the ocean and the sky a final time before turning back to the grave. She had never told him how she felt.
So gently you touched my heart.
I will forever be yours.
She set the flowers by the stone and stepped back, wiping away the tears. A pair of headlights shone from the gate and the woman turned.
Come what may, I won't age a day,
She walked slowly to where her friends were waiting with the car. She stopped at the gate and turned back a final time. The words she whispered where carried away by the wind.
I'll wait for you always…
