Cast No Shadow
By Silver Sailor Ganymede
It was too late for him now, he knew that finally: he should have told them the truth but now, with Dumbledore gone, there was no one left who would defend him and tell the ministry the truth. He knew that she would have fought for him and tried to convince them what the truth was… but she was gone and he knew it was his fault. He had not been able to save her from them, had he? And she was gone now… forever…
He did not pay any attention as they led him to his final demise; he supposed that it was only what he deserved. Had he not listened to his father, had he listened to his own heart and mind for once, perhaps none of this would have happened. But then again he never really had paid himself any heed, had he?
He did not struggle as the chains bound him to the chair; there was no need, he knew his fate. He was chained to his past, his memories, everything he hadn't wanted to become. Chained to all the places that he'd never wished to stay and bound by everything that he'd never tried to say. Chained forever because of his foolishness.
They watched with no remorse as the Dementor took his soul and shattered what had been left of his pride. They thought it was entirely his fault that she had died, just as he did, but they did not know that he had tried to save her…
The chains disappeared and the Dementor drew back. He sat there, his cold grey eyes completely lifeless. The hauled him to his feet; he cast no shadow, his soul was gone, the chains that had bound him were broken.
They had never acknowledged the truth even when it had been staring them right in the face, and now that they did he was worse than dead and she was gone from him: there was no one left to mourn.
