So its been a good while since I've updated this story, and I do sincerely apologize for my long absence. In these past years I have moved to a new city, got married, bought a house and had a baby. She is now 2. Time sure does fly. I have every intention of finishing this story, its been haunting me so to speak. I just want to thank all the readers that have enjoyed this for still being around and interested. I hope I do not disappoint. Also I want to mention and thank Ulyferal for her endless encouragement and beta skills. :) Also my close friends Tay and Elfy for helping me brainstorm myself out of the slump I was in. It is very hard to pick up a story once you've left it sitting for so long! I know this chapter is on the shorter side, but I hope its satisfying enough while I write the next couple chapters.
So it begins...
"I'm done playing games." Dark T-Bone snapped, throwing the cellphone down on the workbench in front of him. "We're ending this tomorrow."
"Oh yeah? And what about Pastmaster and Callie?" Dark Razor challenged as he crossed his arms over his chest. "If I remember right, they didn't leave you calling the shots."
"I don't take orders from nobody Scuzball." T-Bone growled. " I'm here fer one reason only… to MAKE them pay. Isn't that why you're along?"
Razor's only reply was a loathsome scowl as he watched his partner walk away.
Callie didn't dare make a noise or even move as she observed the cold exchange between the two villains. She tried not to be nervous that this T-Bone was undaunted by the drastic change of plans, but then again, this wasn't their plan. They more than likely would have taken the more destructive approach if it had been left up to them.
The mind games had to be the brainchild of her alternate and the Pastmaster.
Now the Dark Swat Kats were acting on their own. She wasn't yet sure if this was for the better or worse for her dimension, but now was the time to divide and conquer.
Gathering up her courage, she looked at Razor and spoke up. "What are you going to do with me, now?"
Razor whipped his head around quickly, snarling at her as he did so. "You're going to just have to wait and see!" He growled, obviously frustrated, turning away to start fiddling with the dimensional radar again.
Callie frowned as she leaned against the wall to relieve some of the strain on her arms. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. If only she knew what was going on in dark Razor's head. She knew she had made a connection with him earlier, but he showed no signs of the turmoil now. She could only hope that his doubt would rule over his thirst for revenge.
It had been a restless night for them all, not knowing what exactly was going to befall them that following day.
Feral and Felina had taken dark Callie back to Enforcer Headquarters, keeping her presence and identity in the strictest of confidence to a trusted few. She was to be kept in a private room away from prying eyes.
Before sunrise, T-Bone and Razor flew back to the backup hangar to prepare themselves for their certain confrontation later on that day. They flew in silence, T-Bone looking grimly ahead while Razor stared off into the majestic clouds that surrounded them. He wracked his brain, trying to piece together spare parts and supplies they had in order to make some more missiles. There was no room for any mistakes. Callie's life, and the lives of many more were at stake.
"I'd feel so much better about everything if we only knew what Pastie was up to." T-Bone grumbled in attempt to engage his partner in conversation. Razor had barely spoken since the phone call with their Dark alternates the night before, and his silence was especially unnerving now.
Razor sighed. "It's not good, whatever it is. But we have to focus on taking them out first. Then we take care of the gnome."
T-Bone nodded in agreement. Their alternates were the biggest threat. "We'll get her back safely, buddy." He could only imagine what Razor was feeling; knowing that the woman he loved was in such irrefutable danger.
Razor broke his distant gaze from the sun kissed clouds and looked at the back of T-Bones seat. A slight smile crept on the corner of his mouth. He could always count on T-Bone to snap him out of his brooding darkness. "I know we will."
Back at the Dark Swat Kats hangar…
At last the Turbokat was ready. T-Bone had worked harder than ever to prep it for the horrors he planned to unleash, and he felt satisfied that his baby was up to the job.
He turned his muscular frame in Razor's direction. "Move yer tail!" he bellowed, wasting no time himself as he jumped into the cockpit, igniting the jet's engine. A thrill ran through him as it roared into life.
As T-Bone reveled in the Turbokat, Razor stared at the tools in his paws and clenched them tightly before setting them down on the workbench. He hadn't realized it, but he had been dreading this moment. This was all he ever thought he wanted … to get his revenge, to feel it fulfilled, to taste the freedom, to once again feel whole. Yet now he wasn't so sure. After all, it wasn't their alternates who betrayed them. They had been betrayed themselves by Feral as well, but they were not consumed by revenge, even after his betrayal had been brought to light. They were working together as allies. WHY?!
"Quit your dallying and get a move on before I leave you here to babysit!" T-Bone yelled viciously over the boisterous engines of the Turbokat.
"Don't get your tail in a bunch I'm coming!" He shot back with matched ferocity as he grabbed his glovatrix and put it on. He couldn't go through with this. He had to do something. Glancing over at T-Bone to make sure he was preoccupied, he snatched the map on the bench and quickly circled an area on it. He then turned to Callie and moved toward her.
Callie watched him with uncertainty as he grabbed her hand constraints and shook them, as if making sure they were secured. What he did next took her completely by surprise, and her heart began to race. Out of nowhere, he put the handcuff key in the lock and turned it.
"Don't move a muscle until we've left," he instructed in a low, gruff voice as he pretended to look around her. "T-Bone can't know that I'm helping you." I left a map on the table and a truck that parked towards the back of the hangar with the keys inside. We're only 15 minutes away from the city."
"Why are you doing this?" She whispered.
They made eye contact, and it only took a moment for her to recognize the turmoil that had once again arisen. Razor then quickly turned and ran towards the Turbokat.
"What do you think you were doing?" T-Bone hissed as he looked back at his partner suspiciously.
"I was checking her restraints." Razor shot back as he settled into his seat. "It wouldn't be good if she somehow escaped."
"No duh genius." T-Bone grumbled as he enclosed the cockpit and guided the jet out.
Callie didn't even notice that she had been holding her breath while she listened to the Turbokat scream off into the distance. She let out a long, shaky exhale as she slipped her hands out of the handcuffs and let them fall against her sides as if they were heavy weights.
