The year is 2066, sixty years after the year of the triple win at East High in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Outside of the very house that she moved into sixty years ago stands none other, than Gabriella Montez-Bolton.
"Gabi? You out there?" a voice called.
"I'm on the porch Troy," she responded.
Troy walked out onto the porch and slinked his arm around his wife's waist.
Gabi leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed, staring up at the full moon in the starless sky.
"I still can't believe you're moving your mom into a retirement home," Troy said.
Gabi turned her head up towards his, looking at him like he was crazy and said, "Troy, she's turning ninety-seven in a week." "Right," Troy chuckled.
They were silent for a moment, both looking up at the moon.
"Do you want to go down to the lake?" Troy asked.
Gabi froze, remembering the time they were teenagers and went down to the beach at midnight…
"Gabi, let's go down to the lake again," Troy urged.
"Again Troy? It's five till midnight," Gabi whined.
"C'mon, you know you want to," Troy pushed.
"Fine, but only for a minute," Gabi sighed before Troy smiled and pulled her down the sidewalk.
They ran to the sandy northern shore of the lake and looked out onto the water.
The glassy surface was a mirror of the sky: midnight black with a wavering circle of brilliant white from the moon.
Troy took advantage of his girlfriend's trance and tackled her lightly down on the sand.
"Troy!" she shrieked as they laughed.
She rolled them over so she was on top of him, their faces only two inches from each other's.
'This is it; I'm going to kiss her,' Troy thought.
'Ok Gabi, you can do this. Just, lean in and do it,' Gabi thought.
Slowly, their faces came closer together and just as the grandfather clock in the small lake keeper's house struck midnight, their lips crashed together.
What neither of them knew that this was both of their first kiss.
They pulled away after a moment and stared into each other's eyes.
Both sets were overflowing with happiness.
"Gabi; are you ok?" Troy's voice snapped her back to life and she asked, "Huh?"
"Do you want to go down to the lake?" he asked.
"Yeah, I think I'd like that." Gabi smiled.
So with his arm around her shoulders, and her arm around his waist, they walked down to the sandy northern shore of the lake and looked up at the bright, full moon; remembering… their midnight memory…
