Tim stepped out of the door of Fantasy Bazaar and heard it close behind him. He
turned to look at the small shop, the place of so many good times. How could
Bilbo fire him over a stupid difference of opinion like that?
He let out a sigh and then jumped. Bilbo had his face pressed against the glass
of the door, waving Tim away with his hand.
Dejected, Tim turned to walk away, looking at the ground. He noticed a pair of
black army boots in front of him. Lifting his gaze, he followed a pair of green
combat trousers, a large belly covered with a dark green T-shirt which a pair of
dog tags hung in front of and finally came to stare straight into Mike's eyes.
"Aaargh!" cried Tim. "Mike, don't sneak up on me like that!"
"What do you mean? I've been standing here for ages."
They both looked at each other for a moment.
"I got fired." Tim said sadly.
"Phantom Menace?" asked Mike.
"Yeah, but how did you...?" began Tim.
"Doesn't matter now. We've all said and done things we've regretted later, like
that curry I had last night." replied Mike, his stomach making a strange
Mike saw Tim's bottom lip starting to wobble, and they hugged each other, Tim
sobbing loudly. After a few seconds they stepped back, Tim looking as though
nothing had happened. Mike looked puzzlingly at the damp patch on his shoulder,
then back to Tim, who's face was completely dry.
"Want to go home?" Mike asked.
Tim nodded and they set off down the high street. They hadn't been walking for
two minutes when Mike spotted someone on the other side of the road. It was
Sarah, Tim's ex-girlfriend.
"Lookout captain, Klingons on the starboard bow!" cried Mike.
Tim jumped and hid behind a skip a second before Sarah saw him. "I don't want to
see her right now!" he whispered to Mike.
"Hi Mike!" Sarah said as she walked over to him.
"Er, hi Sarah." replied Mike.
"Have you seen Tim lately?" she asked.
"Er, no, not for a while." said Mike, starting to sweat.
Tim, hiding behind the skip, heard Scotty's voice saying "Captain, shields down
to 75 percent!"
"Really?" said Sarah. "I thought you were best friends?"
"Er, yeah, but I've been busy." replied Mike, a bead of sweat running down his
Tim hear Scotty saying "Captain, shields at 50 percent!"
"Sorry to hear about him getting fired. Phantom Menace?" said Sarah.
Tim coughed behind the skip, and put his hand out to steady himself. With a
look of disgust, he slowly lifted his hand to find a kebab stuck to it and was
almost sick with the smell.
Sarah heard the noise and tried to look around Mike, who stepped sideways to
block her view.
"Er, yeah." said Mike.
Scotty cried "Captain, shields down to 25 percent and failing!"
Sarah stepped one way and then dodged around Mike.
"Hi Tim!" she said.
"Shields are down!" cried Scotty.
Tim stood up from his hiding place. "Hi." He said sheepishly.
"Captain, we have a warp core breach!" Shouted Scotty in Tim's head just as Mike
Tim and Mike looked at each other, smiling and trying not to laugh.
Sarah turned pale. "Well, Tim, I just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about
"Thanks." replied Tim.
They stood silently for a few seconds.
"Well," said Sarah, smiling, "I can't stand here chatting all day. See you
Tim and Mike watched as she walked away.
"Let's go home." Said Tim. "By the way, you stink."
"Not as much as you." replied Mike.
