It's For the Best

'Padme lives and Obi-Wan helps her deal with the fact that she and the children have to be separated.'

Summery: Padme wants her children to stay with her. But is that really what's best………

I don't know you anymore! Anakin, you're breaking my heart! You're going down a path I cannot follow!

Because of Obi-Wan?

Because of what you've done. What you plan to do! No, Anakin, stop now, come back! I love you!

Liar! You are with him! You brought him here to kill me!

Padme sat up in her bed. It was only a dream. It wasn't real. But she knew, in her heart of hearts that it wasn't just a dream. It was real. And she knew this. But dwelling in the past wouldn't change what had happened, would it? No. She needed to think about the now. It seems that, that was the most important thing to focus on right now.

Later That Day……..

"Padme, we have reached a decision, and we've decided that you and the children need to be split up."

"Excuse me?" Padme said, staring at Obi-Wan straight in the face. "You want to separate my children from me? They already are going to have to grow up fatherless, don't you think for one minute that I'm going to have my children grow up motherless as well!"

"It doesn't have to be that way, Padme. They can be adopted."

"Adopted? So now my children are going to grow up being lied to, thinking their parents are dead? How much more corrupt can your decisions get?"

"Padme, don't you realize that if you aren't split up, Vader will have an even greater chance to find them? To corrupt them? Think about what's best for your children. It's for the best."

Padme paused, considering what she'd just been told. It was true. Her children had a better chance at a better life if they were not with her.

"Very well. I will decide were they will go."

The males all glanced at each other. It was Bail Organa who spoke up first.

"Padme, do you really think that you have the best judgment……."

"Are you questioning the mother about where her children should go to be sent for safety?" Padme said, eyes blazing.

Bail was subdued.

"Of course not, Padme."

"That's what I thought."

"Then where do you think they should be sent?" Obi-Wan asked.

"I think to reduce the risk, even the children need to be split up from each other. Luke can be sent to my sister, Sola's family. She'd be only to happy to take care of him, and Leia can be sent to Tatooine to stay with Anakin's family. What do you think?"

"I suppose that could work," Obi-Wan said. "We can have Luke legally adopted by Sola, and Leia will be so far out in the outer rim, that no one should be able to bother her."

"It's settled then," Bail declared. "The babies should be sent to their new homes at once."

Padme stood up. Her face showed no emotion, but through the Force, Obi-Wan could tell that Padme was sad, and troubled. He met her out in the hallway.

"Padme, you do realize that this is for the best?"

"Yes Obi-Wan. Just understand I'm under a lot of stress right now."

I agree," Obi-Wan said. "After nearly being chocked to death by your husband, giving birth to twins, and needing to be separated from them all in twelve hours, you've had a full day!"

"That's not helping any!" Padme declared.

"Sorry. It's for the best."

"I know."

It's for the best. It's for the best………
