Summary: A wise man remembers a birthday. A wiser man remembers a birthday and gets a present. A lucky man doesn't even know it's a birthday but gets a present anyway. Bankag
A/N: I know it's late, but Happy Birthday, Feliz Cupleanos, and Otanjoubi Omedotou Gozai-freakin'-masu, Doragon no Mizu! This is for you! (Duh.) OLD LADIES AND SUPER BABIES!
And for anyone else who reads this, please know that Inuyasha fics are anything but my forte. I apologize for any OoC-ness and/or blandness.
Kagome waited patiently next to the well. It was pitch dark, as midnight was steadfastly approaching; a tiring hour indeed, especially for being on foot the entire day, but it was the only way she could manage a secret meeting with a certain someone…
…A certain someone who was now officially late.
She drummed her fingers on the damp wooden rim. Where was he? It was very unlike him to be late, as he was usually the first one here—which seemed a bit weird, now that she thought about it. He stayed with the Shichinintai quite a-ways away, while she but five minutes max from the well usually, so that would mean he would probably leave around… eleven? What a weird hour to leave at. What a weird guy.
She smiled to herself; 'weird' wasn't exactly the word she was looking for… Unique, perhaps? She mulled it over for a moment before shaking her head—not precise enough.
He was rather..
"Stupid," he cursed, "Stupid, stupid, stupid…"
Bankotsu ambled down the dirt-paved path, visibly seething and clutching his Banryuu tightly. Recently, he has just run into a pack of mischievous—and cunning—foxlings, who managed to steal his precious sword and run off. Firstly, no one—not even those closest to him—got to touch his Banryuu, and secondly, he wasn't too sly, setting him back even further in the wild goose chase after those little foxes. And because of that, he was late.
Of course, Bankotsu knew she'd never be too angry with him for being late—she wasn't that kind of person, regardless of what 'dog-face' would say about that. Inuyasha always asked for it anyway, treating her the way he did; why—how?—on earth did she put up with that?
That still didn't change the fact that he was late, nevertheless. He knew that it was really a hassle for her to make these secret meetings every night for unlike Bankotsu, she did not have any Shikon shards to recuperate her strength.
He grinned, "That's it!"
Kagome looked up from her pondering as the mercenary came into sight. She beamed, "There you are! I've been waiting for you." She said, "Usually it's the other way around,"
Barkotsu rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Yeah, sorry. I had to make a, uh, slight detour…" he explained, pulling a small shard from his pocket and placing it in her hand. "Here, I got this for you."
She blinked in shock, "It's a… Shikon shard!"
He nodded, smiling at her happiness and surprise. "Uh-huh, I just thought—"
But before he could finish, Kagome enveloped him in a hug, saying, "You knew today was my birthday? But I never told you! …You're so sweet!" she squealed.
Bankotsu awkwardly returned her hug. "Um… your birthday! Yeah, that's why I got you this!"
"I'm so lucky to have someone like you…"
He just laughed nervously. She might be lucky to have him, but he knew for sure that he was even more so just to have someone like her…
No, he decided; too cheesy.
Just plain lucky.
