Summary: He fell. Into the Pit. I couldn't stop him.

Rating: PG

Warnings: Angst, slightly disturbing topic

Disclaimer: Harry Potter belongs to J.K. Rowling … Aah, I mean Doctor Who belongs to the BBC! And Russell T Davis, I suppose – I'm not entirely sure who owns the copyright. For now I'll just put both.

Author's Notes: A pity my first non-HP fic is just a drabble, but the ideas I have I doubt will be developed enough for posting yet. This may be a bit long for a drabble … maybe it could be a one-shot … not sure. I'll call it a drabble for now.
I'm working on a chaptered fic circled around two minor characters from The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit and planning another chapter fic with Rose, the tenth Doctor and Jack. In addition I have a Doctor Who/Harry Potter crossover … which has been done before, apparently, but I hope my take will be original. I am in no way abandoning my HP fics – they are actually my favourites, as is the fandom. I just feel like dabbling in other fandoms a bit sometimes.

And you will weep
When you face the end alone
You are lost
You can never go home
- Lord of the Rings (Gollum's song)

"He's gone."

I freeze. Two words, just two words, and they hit me over the head so hard.

"What do you mean, he's gone?" I find my voice.

"He fell." I hear her swallow. "Into the Pit. I don't know how deep it is, miles and miles and miles …"

No. No, he can't have done. He can't have fallen …

"W-what do you mean, he fell?"

"Well, I couldn't stop him!" Ida insists.

I don't believe it. The Doctor …? What happened?

Before I can ask, Ida says suddenly, "He said your name."

I don't know what that means, but it can't be good … If the Doctor asked Ida to say something to me … he must have jumped. Or something. Maybe he just felt like he needed to find out what was in the Pit … I don't know … I'm muddled, I can't think …

Two words from Zack. "I'm sorry."

He's speaking to Ida, but I take no notice. I only notice when Ida says, "Good luck!" addressed to all of us.

"Thank you." I tune out again.

This isn't happening. So many times the Doctor and I have been separated … and now it's final. Absolute.

I only hear two words of Zach's orders to Danny and Toby. "Rocket" and "leaving". Before they even register with my mind, even in it's numb state, I've made my decision.

"I'm not going."

Zach turns and looks at me in surprise. "Rose, there's space for you."

He doesn't understand.

"No, I'm going to wait for the Doctor – just like he'd wait for me."

Now Zack looks sympathetic. Well, sympathetic for him. He doesn't show a lot of emotion …

How can I even think about it when the Doctor is ten miles below with no way up?

"I'm sorry, but … he's dead."

No he's not! I believe in him! He's not dead!

"You don't know him!" My voice cracks. "Because he's not … I'm telling you he's not …" I can't find the words. "And even if he was, how could I leave him? All on his own, all the way down there?"

I came along to hold the hand of my lonely angel. I won't leave him. I love him.

"No, I'm going to stay."

Zack nods in understanding. But he doesn't understand.

"Then I apologise for this. Danny, Toby, make her secure."

Hey! He's barely finished speaking before the two grab my arms. I struggle – They took me by surprise, otherwise I would've been able to get one in the groin. But Zack wastes no time and grabs my arm … A hissing sound … Eyes … heavy …

Darkness …
