"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Booth murmured, gazing up through the trees at the imposing moonlight. Around them, the afternoon was rapidly fading as the darkness shrouded everything in a mysterious cover and allowed the glow of the moon to illuminate the landscape. The last splash of colour that was the sunset had vanished from sight within the past ten minutes or so.

"I wouldn't describe it as beautiful," Brennan answered. Her attention was fixed on the gnarled old corpse at their feet, half buried in rubble and hidden by the brush. "The opposite maybe." She finally looked up, just in time to see Booth roll his eyes. "What?"

He just shook his head resignedly and gestured at the sky. "I was talking about the sky," he explained, deepening the questioning expression on Brennan's face.

"I really don't see what's so special about it. The sky is always there. It's constant." Brennan pierced Booth's gaze with her own as if daring him to argue with her. He did.

"Well, that's the whole point!" he exclaimed. "It's changing all the time and never really the same, but when it comes down to it, you can always count on it to be there…" He drifted off and continued to stare up into the sky as if he would be able to see into the heavens if he looked long enough.

"I don't know what that means," Brennan replied, her brow furrowed.

Booth sighed. "Just…look. Okay?" He pointed upwards and Brennan moved over to stand by his side. She brushed the majority of dirt from her hands onto her jeans and then focused her full attention on the sky.

After a few minutes she nodded, finally understanding what Booth meant. "Yes, it is beautiful," she said. The corner of her mouth twitched up into a smile.

Booth grinned as he watched her. "Yes, it is," he said.
