Concern for a Good Night's Sleep

Rain was tapping on the windows. It seemed to fall endlessly from the starless night sky. The pouring of rain didn't bother the so-called doctor at all. In fact, it seemed to comfort him to some extent. He was sprawled out on the couch, his glasses skewed on his pointed nose. His arms stretched out on the beige fabric, his head lying somewhat uncomfortably on the arm rest, and his eyes were closed.

Dr. Venture was on the verge of falling asleep, when he noticed that he had been lifted off the couch. He was too dazed to open his eyes, and figure out what was going on. Soon, he realized that he was being carried, but to where? He opened an eye slightly, and saw a muscular man, who could be none other than his bodyguard, Brock Samson.

"Wait, what's going on?" he wondered. There was a "Kachink" sound, and Dr. Venture found himself on his own bed. He felt a soft pat on his shoulder, and the door closed. Then, he went to sleep.

Dr. Venture slowly sat himself up in his bed. He looked around, and it was 7:55 AM. What if it never rained last night? What if hat incident last night was just some sort of bizarre dream? However, when he put on his glasses, he saw himself in his speed suit from the night before. He scratched his bald head, puzzled. Why would Brock do something like that for him? But then, he shook off the thought, and made his way to the kitchen. He made himself some coffee, and enjoyed it leisurely until Brock came in.

"'Morning Doc," Brock said.

"Oh. Good morning Brock." The doctor suddenly felt somewhat awkward.

"You sleep well?"

"Um, yeah. I slept okay." More awkwardness came rushing to him. "Uh, Brock?"

"Yeah Doc?"

"Didn't I fall asleep on the couch last night?"

Why did you even bother doing that for me?

"Yeah. You did. Just put you on your own bed. I figured you might've woke up with a crick in you're neck if you spent the entire night like that on the couch."

Oh. How thoughtful of you. Thank you very much.

"Well, you know, I'll get up and go to bed myself. Don't anything like that, unless I tell you to Brock."

"Well, sorry Doc."

"Fine. Just don't ever do that again."

That's okay. It's no big deal.
