FanFic 100 Challenge Prompt: #038- Touch: Sometimes a touch is all that is needed to show love. Hands can tell a lot about a person...

Hands

Albus Dumbledore held his Deputy Headmistress's hand, preparing to make what he knew would be the most important decision of his life. A smile came to his lips as he recalled the memories he had shared with her. From the very moment her skin first brushed ever-so-lightly against his, he had felt the amazing power this woman had over him. Minerva had always been strong and dignified, but Albus was the first to truly see her weaknesses; she loved her students- all of them- perhaps as much as she could have her own children, she often struggled with self-doubt despite being immensely accomplished in almost everything she attempted, and she sometimes feared opening herself up to others, even to those she felt closest to and loved the most. Several staff and family members and the occasional student had easily observed that Albus had been the best thing for Minerva, and she was the same for him. Through thick and thin, good times and bad, they were essentially inseparable.

Albus caressed the back of Minerva's hand with his thumb. These were the hands that had given him the strength when he believed all hope was lost. When he felt he could fight no longer, her hands were there to hold him, to coax him into victory. Her hands were his faith and his stronghold. In return, Albus had forever sacrificed himself to what was right, and he persevered through the years as a tribute to Minerva. When she was weary or frightened, he had held her hands steady. As one lacked the power, the other gave all he had to build up the bond of love and friendship between them.

Minerva looked into his eyes with eager expectation. Her soft smile said it all; she trusted him, even when he sometimes forgot to trust himself. She tightened the grip on his hand. It was her way of telling him that she was fully prepared to listen to what he had to say and that he could confide anything to her. She nodded. After all this time, he was ready, and he knew that she would agree. She would follow him anywhere, and he would do the same for her. Albus smiled and kissed her hand.

"Minerva, I love you," he whispered as he slipped a ring on her finger. "Will you marry me?"

She made a noise somewhere between a laugh and a cry and pulled him into a kiss.

"I love you too, Albus. Of course I'll marry you."
