Bella sighed as she slid the CD into the sound system Charlie had finally let her buy. Of course, Edward refused to let her pay for it, and she could never say no to his angelic face. She glanced nervously around to make sure that no unseen person could hear her "deplorable" taste in music. Bella doubted that anyone would appreciate the fact that she listened to Nickelback, but their newest album had her hooked. She deftly switched to the one track she loved, the one track she listened to every day. She sighed again and lay on her bed, closing her eyes and allowing the guitar riff to soothe her.

Prison gates won't open up for me
On these hands and knees I'm crawlin'
Oh, I reach for you

She heard a slight creak as her window eased open slightly. Bella smiled, knowing that there was no wind that day. It could only be Him: her Edward. Normally, she would have moved to shut off her song, but it was time she let him hear it. He had to know how she felt.

Well I'm terrified of these four walls
These iron bars can't hold my soul in

She knew the next line by heart from the first time she had heard the song.

All I need is you

Come please I'm callin'
And oh I scream for you
Hurry I'm fallin', I'm fallin'

She could practically hear his skin cracking, Edward was smiling so hard. It was the next line that she needed him to hear, one that would tell him exactly what she wanted.

Show me what it's like
To be the last one standing
And teach me wrong from right
And I'll show you what I can be
Say it for me
Say it to me
And I'll leave this life behind me

Bella could nearly hear him cringe, but she did her best to keep her breath even, as well as her pulse.

Say it if it's worth saving me

Bella knew it was cruel to subtly hint that the excruciating process of becoming a vampire could be considered "saving," but it would save her from a lifetime of regret, and him from an eternity of sorrow. Edward has to understand, Bella mused.

The remainder of the song passed uneventfully. As it ended, Bella heard the electronic buzz that filled the room fade as Edward shut down the speakers. She signed, and finally opened her eyes, prepared to fail again to convince him when faced by his golden eyes. She was shocked when she felt a cold pair of lips press against her own. When they parted, her eyes searched for his own, waiting for the bitter anger that was always present. Instead, she found a smile playing about his face.

"Bella, forever is a long time..." Edward warned. "Yes," Bella agreed, "and I want to spend every minute of it with you." Edward smiled again, and whispered, "I'll say it then. I love you, Isabella Swan, now, and forever."
