Summary so far Set during and after Ana Lucia accidentally shooting Shannon. Shannon and Sawyer are recovering in the hatch
Her hands rested on the edge of the kitchen sink and she could hear her stepmother in the living room conversing with someone on the phone. Shannon jumped as the light went off.
"Stupid light bulb" she muttered.
After rinsing the last plate, she drew up the blind and gazed into the blackness outside. Other than the distant voice of her stepmother, there was no other sound. It was soothing, she thought, this darkness around her; it was like being a gem wrapped in thick, soft silk. But then she felt an incessant sensation bothering her abdomen.
"How is she doing, Jack?" asked Sayid who didn't take his eyes off Shannon.
With his hands on his hips, Jack looked around the hatch, saw the blood, Shannon's blood. He turned back to face the young woman lying on the bed who was now clothed in clean garments.
"I don't know. We'll have to wait until she wakes up."
Sayid, however, didn't seem to be listening because he walked over and sat on the floor beside the motionless figure to take her pale hand in his.
There was a sound of glass shattering followed by someone collapsing to the floor.
"Sawyer." Jack rushed into the kitchen. "You okay?"
Sawyer's breathing was laboured "Yeah, I was thirsty."
"You shouldn't have gotten up" Jack helped him to the couch
"I didn't have the energy to speak, Doc" he rasped through breaths.
"Wasn't Kate with you?"
"I was in the bathroom," said Kate as she walked into Sawyer's view, "Sawyer! What happened?"
"I fell and I'm thirsty."
"I'll get you some water."

A bang reverberated around the jungle and through everyone's ears.
A second too late, Ana Lucia saw who the bullet had hit. Pain, numbness and recognition registered on her face. Shannon Rutherford?
Shannon fell limp into Sayid's arms. He lay her down and stared up with malice at the shooter, but softened only by a mere fraction when he saw that the shooter bore a deep sorrow upon her face and was running towards them. He glanced back down at Shannon who reached a hand up to his face.
The shooter fell to her knees beside them.
"Shannon?" she whispered
Sayid furrowed his brows and looked up at the shooter.
