A/N:: This is not in any way related to the song "The Rose" by Bette Midler. lol Mm, let's just say this is set after Albus's death. I rarely write those.

FanFic 100 Prompt #:: 011- Red

The Rose

The warmth of the sun heated Minerva's face as the gentle breeze wildly blew the loose strands of hair in her eyes. Her heart sank at the sight of the white marble tomb that encased her husband's body. She sat in a daze. The knowledge that he would one day die in such a manner had not made the reality any easier to cope with. Minerva felt her hands quiver, and she reminisced the many times Albus had been there to steady her hands. Now... he was gone.

"Mrs. Dumbledore," a man's voice called.

Minerva looked around to see that most people were making their way back to the castle. A short brown-eyed, brown-haired man, whose presence she had not previously noticed, stood before her.

"I apologize for the disturbance, but this is for you."

The man handed her a single long-stemmed red rose and a small folded piece of paper.

"Thank you," she said distantly.

With a nod and a sympathetic smile, he turned on his heel and walked away.

Minerva carefully unfolded the paper. A pain rose in her throat as she recognized the scribbled handwriting to be Albus's. She could almost hear his voice as she read.

Minerva, my love:

We both knew this day would come to pass, but our unspeakably wonderful years together were not spent in vain. There is a bond of love between us that without you I could have never known possible. Do not weep much for me or fear the unknown, for I am always with you, at least in spirit.

I will love you until this rose withers and dies.

Tears began to stream down her cheeks, dampening the letter and the rose- the silk rose.
