"Get the hell away from me." Hermione pushed Lavender's arm away and ran down the corridor, tears streaming down her face. Harry, who had come out behind her with Ron, went after her, and Ron stared after the both of them, trying to figure out what to do. Lavender grabbed his arm and smiled up at him shyly.
"Let's go back to the common room, Ron." With one last glance back at where his two best friends had disappeared, Ron followed his new girlfriend, wondering what the hell he'd gotten himself into.
Hermione fled to the Astronomy tower, and Harry was panting by the time he caught up with her.
"Her – Mi-nee. Slow down – " he gasped. She'd already stopped though. she was standing near the parapet, and he really hoped she wasn't about to jump off, because who would do his homework then? Okay, that was a joke, but in a seriousness, he was worried about her.
SHe was still crying, but when she looked up at him, he saw a look in her eyes he;d never seen before, and suddenly, Harry Potter became very uneasy. He was right to, because Hermione suddenly seized him and planted a huge kiss on his lips. He found himself responding, but the feeling was very strange, like kissing your owl, or something. They broke apart, both with very disgusted looks on their faces.
"I was right then," Hermione said, and turned back to the parapet.
"What the hell was that for?" Harry demanded, flustered.
"I wanted to see if we were compatible, as people have been saying it for years, but clearly, we're not. Damn. That would've pissed Ron off so much." Harry rolled his eyes. Trust Hermione to make a kiss into a science experiment.
"You don't want to piss Ron off," Harry said. "You want Ron himself. And I'm going to help you get him, because seriously, this bullshit has gone on long enough. I'm sick of listening to your bickering. You act like third-years."
"We do not act like –"
"Shut up and listen to me, Hermione. We're going to get you and Ron together. I will do whatever it takes." Hermione nodded.
"Okay, what?" A new voice came from the tower's door. Both of them whirled around to find Ron himself staring at them.
"What have you been up to?" He asked, taking in Harry's ruffled clothes, from running, and Hermione's disheveled hair.
"What have you been up to?" he repeated, but Hermione flounced past him, and Harry just shrugged.
"Nothing, mate. Where's Lavender?"
"She went to bed," Ron said. "who cares?" he added. "I fucked up. Real bad." Harry put an arm around Ron's shoulders and grinned. This was the first step in the right direction.
