Pedals and keys and little black dots
Danced and swirled in a chorus of love.
The music progressed, thickening the plot,
With emotion and fire the pianist drove.
With thin, long fingers caressing the keys,
The simple harmonics became impassioned cries.
Ah, dark melody, which makes my soul freeze!
I awoke from my slumber and looked to the skies.
The stars that were hanging came crashing on me,
And billowing smoke muted life with a living dead sound--
All at the command of this music's melody.
Where did it come from, this passion profound?
The music commanded, possessed, and took!
It twisted my heart, numbing control and all care--
I trembled and saw the Heavens that shook!
Suddenly, he finished, and bowing, took leave of me there.
