A/N: Firstly, this is completely spoiler-ish (based in the next ep) so if you don't read spoilers it's your time to leave. Secondly, this is not beta-ed and my ortographic corrector on Openoffice doesn't work so i'm sure there are a lot of mistakes, forgive me. And lastly, this piece of crappy fanfiction is dedicated to my fellow sisters in arms on Fanforum's Smacked thread: Amy, Aroa and Eilleen (alphabetically listed ). Go on with the show!!!

You could be happy

You could be happy, I hope you are
You made me happier than I'd been by far
Somehow everything I own smells of you
And for the tiniest moment it's all not true
Do the things that you always wanted to
Without me there to hold you back, don't think, just do
More than anything I want to see you grow
Take a glorious bite out of the whole world

You could be happy (Snow patrol)

Afraid of the answer, Stella awaited patiently for the doctor remembering how her nightmare had started. Weeks ago, she had been working in a case with Danny and Mac revolving around a young girl found death in a bathtub. Instantly, she had remembered about Frankie and completely lost in her thoughts – still debating with herself if she was a killer or not – she had started processing evidence, her mind filled with thoughts about her ex-boyfriend, Mac and Peyton. Though, she still hadn't solved the mistery of why Peyton was such a problem to her.

Returning to that fatal day, she remembered collecting a piece of glass coming from a broken mirror. She had treated the evidence carefully but her mind had drown her again into Frankie. She hadn't noticed the cut in her latex glove and finger until Mac had shown her something was wrong with her hand. Everything would had been fine if they hadn't suspect the blood in the broken glass could be HIV infected.

Her world fell aparted when she knew about it. Taken aside of field job, she had felt useless and alone. Her best friend, her love, was nowhere to be seen occupied with Peyton, forgetting completely about her pain. How could he be so insensitive? Didn't he notice she was in pain, not only physical but emotional? It was during those days, she realized they'd never be together.

Hawkes took Mac's place in her life. She had been by his side when he was false accused and now, he was returning the favour. He was her rock, her confident and with time he became her lover in the cold nights of New York. He took cared of her, cherished her, wiped away her tears and, without knowing, he helped her sweep off of her mind Mac.

Doctor came in having in his hand Stella's results. His face was emotionless, not giving a hint of the results to Stella so she feared the worst. Doctor took a seat and breath heavily.

"Stella" he said softly. And it was in that moment she noticed Hawkes had her right hand between his hands.

"Stella" the doctor repeated "You can breathe again now... everything's fine" and he smiled.

She felt relief inside, as if she had returned to life again. She stood up, embraced Hawkes and started to laugh histerically. Hand in hand, they left doctor's office, smiling widely not knowing someone was observing them.

Mac was around the corner. He had been worried about Stella all the time. And, right now, he was feeling bad, mad, stupid and a lot of other adjectives. Afraid of loosing Stella as he had lost Claire once, he had put his feelings for her aside and embarked into a superficial relationship with doctor Peyton Driscoll. An easy relationship but not fullfilling. Unable to react when it was time to do it, he had lost Stella leaving her in the arms of Hawkes. He looked at them for the last time. They looked painfully happy.
