Dream Haunt- After her family's betrayal, and father's death, Gemma Doyle sets out for a new life, one that includes the one person she can trust. But what happens when an old enemy returns? How will she defeat her enemies when she has no one that can help her in the realms? How will she survive without her friends and The New Order?
I awoke with a jolt. My first response was to awaken Kartik.
"Kartik", I said as I reached out for him with my right hand, "Kartik there's something here." I whispered, loud enough for him to hear. My hand had yet to find him, "Kartik!" I said, becoming worried.
"Shh, Miss Doyle. Kartik is sleeping. So not bother him. He needs his rest after such an ordeal." A strangely familiar voice said.
I steadied myself before responding, "Who are you?" I demanded.
"Circe." The voice said demonically.
"No." I said, my voice beginning to shake with fright.
"I have come to haunt you Gemma." The voice said, delighted, taunting me.
"No, I banished you." I said, fear still pulsating through me.
"You banished me from the realms. Not your dreams." She said, sadistically delighted at the thought of my despair.
"But I am awake. I heard something snap and I awoke. This is a dream. This is all just a dream." I said, trembling, trying to make sense of it all.
"No, you are sleeping. Gemma, Gemma, Gemma. What terrors can I provoke in your mind?" she laughed maniacally.
"No." I muttered, terrified.
"Gemma" she said in a singsong voice.
"No. Go away!" I said, my voice rising with fear, and excitement, adrenaline pumping through my sleeping body.
"Gemma…..Gemma……Gemma." she said, except her voice was sounding less like Circe. Her voice sounded deeper, more like a man.
All of the sudden I felt two strong hands on both of my shoulders.
"Gemma!" a male voice said. It was Kartik.
My eyes flew open, "Kartik!" I said, tears beginning to stream down my face, "Kartik, she found a loophole in my banishment!" I said through tears.
I cowered into him and he held me closely.
"It's okay Gemma. Shh, calm down. It was just a dream. It's over now." He said as he rocked me gently back and forth, a comforting hand placed in the middle of my shoulder blades.
I looked around, we were in the forest. Sunlight was seeping in through the trees.
"No." I paused, the horror sinking in, "It's just the beginning."
