This was written a few weeks ago to cheer Sprinkles up. I am posting it here at her request. The song is Sweet Child of Mine by Guns n' Roses. I hope you like…
Sweet Child of Mine, Sweet Love of Mine.
Albus Dumbledore crept into his rooms; the hour was late, past midnight. Removing his boots, Albus padded softly through the hallway toward his bedroom. His attention was caught by the thin shaft of light visible under the door to his left. Curious, Albus lifted the heavy latch, cringing slightly at the hollow 'click' which reverberated around the room, he slowly inched the door open and peered inside.
The sight before him stole the very breath from his lungs. Albus felt hot tears pricking the back of his eyes as his chest constricted painfully. In the very far corner of the room, curled in an old oak rocking chair, his wife of thirty years sat sleeping. The diffuse light of one flickering candle cast soft shadows across her slumbering form, but Albus was able to make out a faint smile playing on her lips.
She's got a smile that it seems to me,
Reminds me of childhood memories.
Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky,
Now and then when I see her face,
She takes me away to that special place,
And if I stare too long I'd probably break down and cry,
Her ebony hair, now threaded with grey, fell in gentle waves over her shoulders. Albus suppressed a deep desire to rake his fingers through the silken locks; he had always loved her hair. The velvety textureand lavender scent of her shampoo never failed to comfort him.
Leaning heavily on the door Albus caused the rusted hinges to rasp loudly. Groaning softly, his wife stirred and her eyes fluttered open. Albus gazed in awe at his wife as she unconsciously licked her damask rose lips. The deep azure pools regarding him with affection, though still heavy lidded with sleep.
She's got eyes of the bluest skies,
As if they thought of rain,
I hate to look into those eyes,
And see an ounce of pain,
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place,
Where as a child I'd hide,
And wait for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass me by,
Ooohhh sweet child of mine.
Cradled in his wife's arms was her carbon copy. Smoothly Albus lifted his sleeping daughter and lay her softly back into the crib. Trailing a finger across her ivory cheek, Albus leaned forward and planted a kiss in the child's forehead.
"Goodnight Catherine Grace."
Turning, Albus tenderly scooped his wife into his arms. He inhaled deeply, feeling her arms snake around his neck and her face bury in the hollow of his throat. Her slow, even breathing told Albus that she was asleep again as he laid her under the downy, burgundy and gold blanket. Brushing a lock of hair from her peaceful face, Albus pressed a loving kiss to his wife's temple.
