A/N: This is a story I wrote in response to a challenge on a message board, link will be added to my profile so you can all join because it's amazing... Luke and Lorelai reunited in 400 words or less!
The snow fell hard as Lorelai walked to the gazebo. Snow once meant building snowmen in the town square, or ice skating on the pond Luke made her. Snow no longer made her happy. As a matter of fact, she realized that without Luke, nothing made her happy. She picked up a handful of snow and rolled it into a ball.
"Hey, listen buddy. I'll call you Donny Osmond. Donny, I no longer like you or any of your snowball cronies, you got that? We're done!"
Lorelai dropped the ball and stepped on it. She leaned her elbows on the edge of the gazebo's siding and put her chin in her hands. She stared across the street and into the window of the diner as she began to tear up.
She didn't know that Luke was behind the counter, staring back. Seeing her made his heart jump. He hadn't seen her in awhile, but he was glad he was seeing her now.
Despite the fact that he and Lorelai fought, despite the chaos that ensued in Lorelai's life post-breakup, he still loved her, and it didn't take a self-help tape to figure it out. He started a pot of coffee and watched her kick the snow around.
Lorelai's teeth chattered as she rubbed her arms to keep warm. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the diner door open. He was coming toward her.
Too late to run. Luke met her at the bottom step and handed her the coffee cup he was holding.
"Thought this might warm you up a little. I'd feel bad if you froze," Luke said.
Lorelai smiled. "This was really, really nice of you. Thank you," she said, sniffling slightly.
Luke walked up to her. "Have you been crying?" he asked.
"No, it's just the cold… makes you produce excess bodily fluid… oh, boy, that didn't come out right," Lorelai insisted as she wiped her eyes.
"You're lying. That's your lying face," Luke grunted.
"It's just… Luke, things just haven't been going well lately. They've gone downhill since… well, you know, and I just haven't been myself since then. And I want to be myself, but I realized that I'm not myself if I don't have you around, and I'm kicking myself for…"
"Will you just hold still?" Luke asked, pulling her in for a kiss.
Suddenly, snow wasn't so bad after all.
