Breaking The Rules
She pulled back, covered her mouth with her hand, "oh gods! I'm sorry!"
He just looked at her in shock, his mouth hanging open slightly, almost gaping at her.
"I don't know what I was thinking!" She said quickly, standing up, "I can't begin to imagine what you must be thinking about me."
"No!" She exclaimed holding out a hand, "I shouldn't have done that, I broke some sacred rule or something. I was just sitting there, and I looked at you, and I wanted to, and for once I decided to do something that I wanted, and I'm rambling."
"Hermione, it's alright..." he started again.
"No it's not, it's just wrong," she cried. "You're Ron's friend, and I was his girlfriend, and there is some kind of rule that says somewhere that this," she said gesturing between them, "it's not allowed."
"So Hermione Granger is going to let some stupid rule, that's not even written down dictate what she does?" He smiled, "seems a little out of character love."
She groaned, "please Dean, this is already hard enough, it was a mistake, I shouldn't have done it, I'm sorry. Let's just leave it at that."
"Why is it a mistake? We are both adults, remarkably sane individuals, there is nothing to me that says mistake," he said, making himself comfortable on the chair.
She tried to find another reason as to why it was a mistake. There seemed to be plenty a moment ago, but looking at him, sitting there on her lounge, he looked just like he did a moment ago. Perfect. He was clever, funny, had a creative streak that interested her more than she ever imagined anything like that would; and whenever he looked at her, she fell for him a little bit more every time. To be entirely truthful she had wanted to do it for a long time, but she didn't.
Because of this rule, this one thing she let dictate everything she did, what was best for everyone else. Now he was making her question that, and it was too hard. She growled softly, placing her head in her hands, "why did you say that?! You should have said it was a mistake, that it will never happen again, and we'll pretend it never did."
She didn't notice him get up till he was standing in front of her, pulling her hands down, "but I don't want to," he said quietly. "I've wanted to for a while, and I think you have to."
Hermione nodded, "I have," she whispered.
"Well then, maybe it's time you didn't worry about these rules, and instead focused on what's best for you."
"And what's best for me?" She smiled.
"Me of course," he laughed, leaning down and kissing her swiftly.
As she kissed him back she realised he was right, and sod the rules.
