Two Weeks

It took three hours to hike to the fence. Juliet didn't complain, even though it was stiflingly hot and buggy and Ben hadn't told her what they were doing. It made him appreciate -- no, like -- her even more than he already did.

When he flipped open the keypad and told her seriously that this was a matter of life and death for all of them, she listened studiously, memorized the code. He could practically see her commit it to memory.

"Why are you telling me this?" she asked, and he wasn't surprised. "This isn't something everyone knows."

"No."

"Then why?"

Ben shrugged, possible answers running through his mind. Because I trust you? Because I'm attracted to you? Because there's more to you than even you realize?

"I thought it would be a good thing for you to know," he said finally, simply.

And she accepted it, as he'd known she would. Amazing how she'd only been there two weeks and they could already read each other.
