Left Behind

She rubbed her hands over her arms again, the heat of the summer night had abandoned her. Maybe it was nerves, maybe she was anxious, she just wanted this to be over with. He told them he wouldn't leave without them, that he needed them. She knew he believed that, and he would never put them in harms way intentionally. Hermione was just afraid that he was going to try and be noble, thinking it too dangerous, being too afraid to risk more.

To counteract this she had packed her backpack, and was sitting on the Burrow's back step, waiting. He would go this way, through the kitchen. She wouldn't stop him, but she wouldn't let him leave her behind. They had been with him virtually every step of the way, helping him to the best of their ability. If Ron wanted to stay in bed that was his decision, he trusted Harry to take him with her. She wasn't so sure, she was the girl. Granted they had probably never thought of her much like that, but now, they might. They would let their foolish pride get in the way, she just wasn't going to let them.

She stood, and turned to face him, hands on her hips. "It didn't work."

"What didn't work?"

"Your plan to leave me behind, I've seen Ron and you talking. Did you really think I'd let you leave me behind?"

"I'm not leaving you behind," he said, stepping closer. "You weren't upstairs, I came looking for you."

"Really?" She scoffed, "I don't think so Harry, if you were going, where's Ron?"

"Where do you think?" He smiled, "he's in the kitchen, supplies."

She smiled at that, "of course he is."

"You know," he said, moving closer. "I can't do this without you, I wouldn't have done any of this without you, to leave you behind now wouldn't be right."

"You would have been fine, I just did the reading."

"You did so much more than that, you kept me from ripping Ron's head off when he pissed me off. Stopped me from running from all of this when it got too hard, essential stuff right there. I need you with me now more than ever, you have to be there."

He looked so nervous standing there, sure of his words, but not sure how he was conveying them. Hermione stood on her toes, wrapped her arms around him, "I wouldn't be anywhere else."
