Raoul stood in the wings as Christine took her bows. The audience rose to their feet, the "accident" with Buquet driven from their minds by her enchanting performance. He, too, had almost forgotten, but for another reason—the memory of their kisses on the roof were forefront in his mind as he watched her now.
