Goodbye, Amy…

"Ready to go?" Lou asked Amy from Amy's bedroom door.

Amy took a deep breath and took a good look around her room and made sure she had everything to leave Heartland for Virginia Tech.

"Yeah, I'm ready." Lou was going to drive her to the four year university, and it was time to finally say goodbye.

The two sisters headed down the stairs to the kitchen, where everyone was waiting for Amy. Her luggage was already to go by the door. Amy couldn't believe that today was the day.

Amy said goodbye to Grandpa first. She gave him a huge hug, which he hugged her in return.

"Goodbye, sweetheart. Call us when you get there, and enjoy school, okay? We will take good care of the horses, we promise."

"I know, Grandpa." Amy smiled, though her eyes were welling up. "Thank you for everything that you've done for me."

"We know you'll come back, Amy." Grandpa said, hugging her one last time.

Standing next to her grandfather was Joni, one of Heartland's stablehands.

"See you later, Amy." the Canadian girl said, hugging her. "I'm really going to miss you."

"I'll miss you too, Joni. Take good care of Spindleberry for me."

"I will." Joni said, smiling.

"Amy." Nancy, Grandpa's friend, said to her last. "We know you'll do well at Virginia Tech."

"Thank you, Nancy." Amy said. "I'll come back soon, really. And thank you for the sweets."

"It was no problem, dear." Nancy said, hugging the now college student.

Nancy had baked cookies and muffins for Amy to enjoy her first day there at the college. The bag was in her tote, squished among other items.

With a final wave goodbye to her family and friends, she headed out the door to see Ty, Heartland's main stablehand and her boyfriend to say a private goodbye.

She smiled when she saw his tall handsome figure standing by Lou and Scott's car. Lou and Scott had grabbed Amy's bags and were now putting them into the trunk.

"I don't want to go, Ty, but you know I have to." Amy said through her tears. She hugged onto Ty tightly, who had kissed her hair.

"It's not goodbye forever, Amy."

"I know, it's not, Ty, but I don't want to leave you. And Heartland."

"I know you don't, Amy, but you have a choice to make. Either you go to college to fulfill your dreams, or you waste the chance of a lifetime."

"I'll come back, Ty."

"I know you will."

She gave him a final hug and kiss, and climbed into the couple's car.

She gave him one last wave as the car headed out the drive and onto the main road.

His face was sad. Amy couldn't stand to see him like this.

The ride to the college was very quiet, as Lou and Scott didn't say anything. Amy understood. It was hard; knowing that the next time she would see Heartland would be vacation or a weekend.

The car finally reached the large university and Scott drove the car to the very front, the entrance inside to classes.

Amy, Lou, and Scott got out of the car, and Scott took Amy's luggage out of the trunk and set it down on the concrete.

Amy turned to her sister and brother-in-law and said goodbye to Lou first.

"Goodbye, Lou. I hope I see you soon." Amy said, hugging her sister. Lou returned the hug.

"I hope you're there for the little one's birth, Amy." Lou said, smiling as she patted her stomach. Lou and Scott recently found out that they were going to have a baby in less than a year.

"I wouldn't miss it for anything." Amy said, as she turned to hug Scott.

"Bye, Amy. I can't wait for you to work with me." Scott grinned.

"Oh, Scott, it's not like I'll turn into a vet overnight." Amy laughed.

Giving Amy one last hug, the couple got back into the car and Amy waved them off.

Grabbing her suitcases, she took a deep breath, went into the building and headed towards her future.
