A/N: Written for OAA prompt list, Prompt #72: Life.
"I come on behalf of one whom I love. Arwen is dying. She will not long survive the evil that now spreads from Mordor. The light of the Evenstar is failing. As Sauron's power grows, her strength wanes. Arwen's life is now tied to the fate of the Ring. The Shadow is upon us, Aragorn. The end has come."
King Elessar stared at his friends as Gandalf laid the crown on his hair, and Aragorn just hoped that Arwen did survive, as he did not know what he would do without her. She was his life as she filled his heart, body and soul with love.
After he sang proudly, he climbed down the stairs nodding at the dwarf and the elf that accompanied him the entire Ring Quest.
Then he smiled at Lady Éowyn and Lord Faramir, noticed how happy they appeared.
Then he noticed Elrond, his face darkened, and the sight caused Aragorn to worry about the fate of his beloved.
"Arwen?" Aragorn almost whispered to the lord.
"She did not make it," Elrond replied and added, "It was too much for her, she drew her last breath day before the war was over."
The king did not know what he should do or how he could accept the news he had just heard.
Prince Legolas came toward his friend as he heard the terrible news, with Gimli following him.
King Elessar felt his life was over. As he remembered a joyful and happy lady Arwen, his soul suddenly emptied. He knew there was much evil yet to conquer and that he was to play a part in it, but what did any of it matter if he had failed to save the one he loved most? Lord Elrond had been right.
The end has come.
