Rating: PG-13 or T for s-ai

Disclaimer: Naruto and all of its characters do not and never will belong to me.

Author's Notes: My fondness of milk seems to be contagious, and it looks like Naruto caught the disease. –ded- This would have looked better as a drabble. –cry- But I hope it's still an enjoyable read for you guys. :D

A Few Inches

Lately, Naruto has grown fond of milk.

As a ninja, he should be keeping his body and health in check, and milk helps him with that. He reminded himself that his bones should still be strong and straight even as he turns ninety, and even if everyone around him were suffering from osteoporosis.

He pondered on that thought as he stared at an innocent glass of milk in front of him. The moonlight passed through the window, the only source of light in the room, as the cabin that Sasuke and Naruto were staying at pretty much lacked electricity, save for the living room.

The clock read 1:44 AM.

He knew he should be sleeping or else he wouldn't be able to do well in their mission tomorrow, but somehow, it seemed to him that staring emptily at the half-full glass of milk was better than sleeping. If Sasuke woke up and saw him awake, he'd probably scold him about not getting enough sleep... or maybe just get really smug and suggest that Naruto couldn't sleep because he was thinking of him. The bastard.

He had no idea why he couldn't sleep.

Lack of milk, perhaps?

He remembered adults saying when he was a child -- not to him, of course. He would just overhear. -- that if children wanted to grow up big and strong, then they need to drink milk. Big and strong, huh? He also heard from Sakura that milk helps you grow taller.

Naruto wasn't a short kid. He didn't need to grow taller.

His nose scrunched up.

Okay, so maybe an inch or two wouldn't hurt. Or three. Or five.

But still, it wasn't necessary.

Well, sure, he was two or three inches shorter than Sasuke, and although the other boy never failed to mention that in their spats, Naruto had never been insecure about his height.

Although there was one thing about his height that bothered him.

A noise by the door alerted him, but he knew that it wasn't an enemy. His ears filled with familiar footsteps, and he didn't even need to turn to know who had entered the room. (Not that he would see, anyway. The moon only lit up half of the room.)

"Still awake, dead-last?"

"I could say the same to you, bastard."

There was a grunt of acknowledgement before footsteps reached his ears again. Naruto looked up, raising an eyebrow as Sasuke took his glass of milk and drank it empty. "You have no shame at all."

"You've been drinking a lot of milk these days." Sasuke stated, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand to get rid of any milk-moustaches.

Naruto hmmed in reply.

The now empty glass was put back in its place on the table, and Sasuke turned to leave, no doubt to go back to sleep.

With a sigh, Naruto stood up and grabbed the other's sleeve. Sasuke turned to him, "Naruto?"

Stepping closer, Naruto put both of his hands on Sasuke's shoulders, and kissed him.

Sasuke was, needless to say, speechless when Naruto pulled away three seconds later, and he looked at the blonde with something akin to bewilderment in his expression. "Naruto?"

Naruto frowned. "As I thought." With another remorseful sigh, he walked past Sasuke and trudged depressingly back to their room.

Sasuke caught up to him, walking at his pace. "What do you mean as I thought?"

Naruto mustered up a sound that sounded very much like a whine before speaking, "I still can't kiss you without standing on tiptoes."
