"Are you going to acquire yourself a normal watch some day, Sev?"

Severus Snape, who was making notes on the margins of an alchemical journal, put his reading aside and looked up at his friend. Lucius, standing near the Potions Master's desk, was twiddling in his hands a small hourglass.

"This one suits me just fine," answered Severus calmly.

"You cannot possibly tell time with it, can you?" Lucius frowned. "And the sand is flowing too slowly. That is strange, really. How much time does it measure? A couple of hours? A day?"

"I have no notion of that whatsoever." Severus shrugged. "Albus didn't write anything of the kind when he left it to me."

"What is the point of having it, in this case?" Lucius snorted and turned to the desk, returning the hourglass to its rightful place.

Snape stealthily rubbed the double scar on his neck, left from an old bite.

"The point, my dear Lucius, is that I have it."
