Their Moment

Seventh Year at a corrupt Hogwarts had brought Neville and Luna much closer together, but unlike Ron and Hermione, when the final battle against Voldemort was over, they still hadn't shared "their moment".

When the celebrations were over and life began to resemble something normal again, Luna decided to accompany her father on an expedition to find and document the ever-elusive Crumple-Horned Snorkack for the Quibbler. But when she told her friends this unusual plan, they didn't manage much beyond a few polite farewells and the occasional crazy look that Luna had grown so accustomed to.

"They don't believe in Crumple-Horned Snorkacks," she told Neville confidentially, her protuberant eyes disheartened. "They think I'm wasting my time. What do you think?"

"Well," said Neville thoughtfully, "let me put it this way. If I was able to summon the sword of Godric Gryffindor from the Sorting Hat, then anything's possible. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, have a safe trip, come home soon, and bring me back a Snorkack horn, will ya?"

Luna looked up at Neville in a way that made him feel entirely inadequate to be sorted into a House renowned for bravery… his stomach was doing somersaults…. Needless to say, Luna and Neville had their moment shortly thereafter, the first of a happy lifetime's worth to come.
