Title: Proud Of You
Word Count: 244
Summary: Cameron's thoughts during the final scene ("I'm proud of you") in 3x03 "Informed Consent".
Disclaimer: I don't own 'House', just playing in the sandpit.
A/N: Unbeta'd. This scene was far too cute not to write about. I was gonna change the ending but then I realised that it was perfect the way it was. Anyway, it's just a little something I knocked up tonight and it's probably riddled with mistakes, sorry 'bout that.
She hears the unmistakeable sound of limp and cane as he walks down the chapel towards her. She came here to be alone, to be forgiven, but she knows he doesn't care about that.
The gentle touch of his hand on her shoulder surprises her, and she instinctively closes her eyes, focusing on the comfort that the simple touch provides. She fights the urge to crawl into his warm embrace, and instead lets another tear slowly fall as he moves his thumb in a comforting motion over her shoulder. She wishes he would stay, just this once, stay and hold her and tell her everything will be okay. It won't though - she knows what she's done, and she knows that ultimately it's her fault, no matter how much she may blame it on him.
A moment of silence passes between them, and she wonders why he's even here – he never provides comfort without a reason.
"I'm proud of you," He says sincerely, and she can tell that he actually means it as he squeezes her shoulder gently.
She hates herself for allowing a small smile to float across her face; after all he had done, she shouldn't want his respect. But she does. And with those few small words, she feels like she made the right decision tonight.
She opens her mouth to say something to him, but not knowing what she closes it again, just as his footfalls fade into the distance.
