Major Lorne looked down at the picture in her hands. "Sam always said there was a side to him that no one else saw."

Sam winced. She looked down at the picture again, then back up at Major Lorne. "Look, can I ask you one more thing?"

"Sure, shoot."

"Jack O'Neill. Is he –"

"Dead."

She nodded. "When Anubis attacked?"

"Yeah. Killed all the bad guys with the ancient weapon, but then – he died there in the chair."

"Oh."

"I take it in your reality …"

"General O'Neill's in charge of Homeworld Security," she said.

"Ah. Well, Sam – our Sam – didn't take it particularly well when Colonel O'Neill died."

"Yeah, I'd imagine not," Sam said softly.

"Think that's how she ended up with McKay, honestly. This must really be strange for you."

"A little. It's okay. But I need to go home."

He nodded. "I'll be sorry to see you go. I mean, I know you're not her, but …"

She smiled. "Well, I may be here a while. You never know, you might be the one to pitch me out the door when the time comes. And first," she said, looking around her, "We need to survive an Ori assault. I guess I should get back to work."

"Yeah," he said. "Look, I really just stopped by to say I was heading to the commissary. I could bring you something if you're hungry."

"Thanks," she said, smiling. "That'd be great."

"Anything in particular?"

She made a face. "If it's anything like ours, I don't think it matters. It all tastes the same, right?"

He chuckled. "Yeah, pretty much like mud. See you in a bit."

"Thanks, Major."

"No problem, Sam."
