Cats and Fish
By Silver Sailor Ganymede

"Does a catfish meow?"

Yomi looked up at Tomo in exasperation and shook her head slowly.

"Don't start this again, especially not while I'm trying to do homework," she sighed. "This is nearly as bad as your whole 'can you dye a piranha blue' thing…"

"I like piranhas," Tomo stated. "They're fish with teeth!"

"Yes, Tomo. Piranhas do have teeth."

"Hey, Yomi? Do catfish chase dog fish."

Yomi shot Tomo a blank stare and resisted the urge to sigh again. "What?"

"Well cats chase dogs, so dogfish should chase catfish," Tomo replied as though this were the most obvious thing in the world. There was silence for a moment and Yomi was almost beginning to think she could get on with her work when Tomo spoke again. "How can catfish exist?"

"Do I even want to know what you're talking about now?" Yomi groaned.

"Well cats eat fish, so if catfish are part cat, part fish, how can they manage not to eat themselves?"

This, Yomi thought, was astonishingly stupid even for Tomo. "Tomo, catfish aren't part cat, part fish. They're just fish."

"Oooh, so it's like a case of mistaken identity then," Tomo replied nodding then a look of complete confusion spread across her face.

"What now?" Yomi sighed just as Tomo opened her mouth to speak.

"Would a catfish eat a piranha, or would a piranah eat a catfish?" Tomo asked, frowning. "Because piranahs eat other fish, but so do cats. So would a catfish eat itself then get eaten by the piranha?"

"Could you shut up?" Yomi sighed. "I just managed to write an entire paragraph on cannibalistic fish as part of my essay."
