"Why do you think that I am playing mind games with you?"
Sakura frowned slightly at his question.
"You are doing it again."
His brow arched slightly. "Again?"
Sakura was downright scowling now. "What do you want with me, Itachi? Why are you going through all this trouble just to ask me a few questions?"
He looked at her, his eyes unreadable.
"Are you sure that's all I want from you?"
Sakura had to think hard what he could possibly mean by that. Then her eyes widened. They spat emerald fire at him.
"If you think that you are going to use me to capture Naruto, you have another thing coming. I will kill myself before I allow you to do that."
Her last sentence wasn't a threat; it was a promise, delivered steadily and unflinchingly. He cocked his head slightly at her firm tone.
"The Kyuubi Jinchuriki, he is important to you?"
Her angry emerald eyes softened immediately at the thought of the loud and abrasive blonde.
"Naruto is my brother. He is precious to me."
He eyed her in silence for a long time.
"More precious than…Sasuke?"
Sakura stiffened before she forced herself to relax. It was not surprising that Itachi would know of her crush on the youngest Uchiha. Heck, once upon a time the whole of Konoha had been aware of just where her affections lay.
The same pair of gentled emerald eyes hardened; crystallized with anger.
"Sasuke chose his path. He chose power over friendship."
"You hate my brother now." It wasn't a question.
For two entire minutes, Sakura uttered not a word.
Then, her answer came.
She lifted her head and looked straight at him. He wasn't surprised to see the unmovable resolve in her eyes. How odd it was to him that she would become so fiercely defensive when it came to those whom she cared for, this normally mild-tempered little medic.
"No matter what, Sasuke is one of ours." The kunoichi's voice was now emphatic, hard. There was simply no room for doubts in that firm look in her eyes, those stubbornly set features on her face. "We don't leave one of ours out to dry. He will come back to us one day."
She sounded so completely confident when she iterated her words, so very sure of herself and her feelings regarding the matter but yet-
Yet she had never answered his question.
Crimson eyes gazed upon the wary pink-haired female with calm contemplation.
It didn't matter though, for Itachi had already gleaned of her answer.
Sasuke-kun, you always was such a foolish little boy.
Questions That I Would Like To Answer Before You Ask:
Seriously. I'm not bashing Sasuke. Although I'm not exactly crazy about him and all, his motive to avenge his clan was rather commendable but his actions just…terribly misguided—and stupid. Yeah…I just wanted to say that. Not bashing him at all. Yeah.
