Disclaimer: I'm so sick of saying it. I only own Scarlett.

Thanks for the kind reviews. This chapter was one of my favorites. It's the second to last chapter, though. Which means, this story is coming to an end. After this one, I'm going to finish my POTC story and then think up another movie to add an OC to. Too bad they don't have a catagory for 'The Prestige' because I had written a little thing for it but whatever.

Anyway, enjoy the chapter.

"Harvey? Harvey! I'm sorry! For everything! Please, don't hurt my son," Gordon pleaded.

Harvey seemed to consider it for a moment. He loosened his hold on Gordon's son and Scarlett watched as his face quickly changed when he heard police sirens. He rounded on Gordon, his eyes blazing.

"You brought your cops?!"

"All they know is this is a situation. They don't know who or what, they're just creating a perimeter."

"You think I want to escape from this?! There is no escape from this!"

"You don't want to hurt the boy, Harvey."

Scarlett smiled as she saw Batman step from the shadows. Turning to Gordon's family, she saw the little girl staring back at her. Scarlett put her finger to her lips and the little girl nodded.

"It's not about what I want! It's about what's FAIR! You thought we could be decent men in an indecent time! But you were wrong. The world is cruel. And the only morality in a cruel world…is chance…unbiased, unprejudiced, fair. His son's got the same chance she had: 50/50," Harvey said, taking out his coin.

"What happened to Rachel wasn't chance. She decided to act. She saved an innocent's life."

"Then why was it me who was the only one who lost everything?!"

"It wasn't," Batman whispered.

"The Joker chose ME! Not her!"

"Because you were the best of us. He wanted to prove that even someone as good as you could fall."

"And he was right," Harvey said, his grip tightening on Gordon's son.

"You're the one pointing the gun, Harvey. So point it at the people responsible."

"Fair enough. You first."

Harvey flipped his coin, while keeping a hand on the boy. Looking down, he smiled when he saw it had landed on "tails." He pointed his gun at Batman and shot him in the stomach. Scarlett covered her mouth to keep from screaming as her husband fell to the ground. Not thinking about her actions, Scarlett stood and slinked through the shadows, like a cat, until she came up behind Gordon's wife and daughter.

"My turn," Harvey said, putting the gun to his own head.

He flipped the coin again, and it landed "heads" up. Harvey then pointed the gun at Gordon's son's head. Scarlett scooted closer to Gordon's daughter and tapped her gently on the arm. The little girl looked up at her in alarm and said, "Is Batman alright."

"I don't know. But, just stay calm. We're all going to be alright."

The little girl nodded and both turned their attention back to Harvey. Gordon now had tears running down his face and he tried, once more, to plead for his son's life.

"Harvey, you're right. Rachel's death was my fault. Pl-Please, don't punish the boy. Please punish me."

Harvey pushed the gun up to the boy's head and said, "I'm about to. Tell your boy it's going to be alright. Lie…like I lied."

"It's going to be alright, son."

Scarlett held her breath as Harvey flipped the coin, once more. Suddnely, a dark shadow wizzed past the three women, straight for Harvey and the boy. Batman had tackled Harvey over the side of the building before he can catch the coin. Scarlett stood up from her spot and ran towards the edge of the building, with Gordon on her heels. Barbara and her daughter both stood and ran after them. Scarlett fell to her knees and looked down. There was Batman hanging on to the ledge, his other hand holding on to Gordon's son. Down below, Scarlett saw Harvey's lifeless body.

Gordon quickly dropped to his knees beside Scarlett and they both leaned overt he side, throwing their hands down. Batman pushed the boy up over the ledge and into Gordon and Scarlett's outstretched hands. Together, they pulled him up over the ledge and into Barbara's arms. She hugged her son tightly, as Gordon and Scarlett both reached back to help Batman. Scarlett leaned her body far out and Gordon grabbed her around the waist, fearing for her safety. Grabbing her husband's hand, Scarlett said, "Don't you dare let go."

Fearing for his wife and child's safety, Batman yanked his hand away from her and his hand slipped from the plank. Scarlett and Gordon watched as he crashed through several planks before he landed next to the unconscious Harvey. Gordon hauled Scarlett back over and as soon as he let go of her, she stood and ran towards the flight of stairs, and went down them as fast as she could. Gordon followed her, with his son right behind him.

"Daddy! Dad, is he going to be okay," Gordon's son asked.

Once she reached the outside of the parking garage, Scarlett ran towards Batman and Harvey. She dropped to her knees next to the masked man and tapped the only part of his face that was visable. His eyes opened slowly and focused in on her. Scarlett smiled and said, "Don't ever do that to me again."

The moment was short lived as Gordon and his son came up behind her. Gordon reached for his radio, to call for help, but Batman reached up and shook his head. Scarlett grabbed on to Batman's upper arm to help him.

"Thank you," Gordon said.

"You don't have to thank me," Batman said, as he laborously got to his feet in obvious pain. Once he was standing, Scarlett let go of him.

"Yes I do."

The three of them looked down at Harvey's body on the ground. Scarlett hoped, that if there was a heaven, that Harvey was finally with Rachel.

"The Joker won. Harvey's prosecution, everything he fought for, undone. Every chance we had at fixing our city dies with Harvey's reputation. We bet it all on him. The Joker took the best of us and tore it down. People will lose hope," Gordon said.

"They won't. They must never know what he did," Scarlett muttered.

"Five dead, two of them cops. You can't sweep that up."

"But the Joker cannot win," Batman said, as he kneeled down next to Harvey, whose burnt left side was facing up. "Gotham needs its true hero," he finished, turning Harvey's head so that his unmarred side faces up.

Gordon's eyes widened, as he imediately understood. Scarlett knew as well, and she whispered, "No."

"You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain," Batman said, quoting Harvey.

He then stood and turned to Scarlett and Gordon. "I can do those things because I'm not a hero, unlike Dent. I killed those people. That's what I can be."

"No, NO! You can't, you're not," Gordon said.

"I'm whatever Gotham needs me to be. Call it in," Batman replyed, handing Gordon his radio.

"They'll hunt you."

"You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me. Because that's what needs to happen. Because sometimes the truth isn't good enough. Sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded."

Scarlett tensed up, and turned towards Harvey. She walked away from Batman and Gordon and kneeled down next to the dead man. Gordon noticed and said, "Mrs. Wayne. What are you doing?"

"Giving him what should have been his." Scarlett took Rachel's necklace from her pocket and put it into Harvey's limp hand.

She then got to her feet and turned back to Gordon and Batman. Only Batman was already gone, running from the scene. Scarlett watched him go and closed her eyes as she heard the sound of approaching police and their dogs.

"Batman? Batman," Gordon's son yelled, "Why is he running, Dad?"

"Because we have to chase him," Gordon replied.

"He didn't do anything wrong."

Gordon glanced over to Scarlett. She had been watching where Batman had run off and was watching the cops and dogs beginning to look for him. He watched her smile to herself and as she turned back to him, they shared a knowing glance.

"Because he's the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector…a Dark Knight."

As the police continued their search, Scarlett walked over to Gordon and said, "I don't suppose I could trouble you for a ride home. My husband is probably worried sick."

Gordon smiled and said, "Of course. My family…"

Scarlett smiled, knowing he would want to see them. So, she walked towards one of the squad cars and waited inside. Gordon evantually walked over to the car with his family in tow, and once his children were seated next to Scarlett and his wife was in the passenger seat, he drove away from the scene. The streets were still empty and not a soul was in sight.

"Where to, Mrs. Wayne?"

"The penthouse, please."

The ride to Bruce's penthouse was quiet and once Gordon pulled up next to the building, he glanced back at Scarlett and said, "If you see him, thank him again for me."

Scarlett nodded and thanked Gordon for the ride home. She exited the car and waved to the family as they drove off. Turning back to the large bulding looming behind her, Scarlett walked into the glass doors and smiled to the guard on duty. The elevator pinged before she even pressed a button and she boarded. Once the elevator reached the penthouse floor, the doors slid open, revealing the dark abode to Scarlett. However, over by the bed was Bruce, dressed in a pair of long pajama bottoms. He turned at the sound of her heels on the floor. Scarlett kicked them off and into a corner, yawning as she did.

"Do you need help?"

"The damn bullet didn't go through so I'm ok."

Scarlett nodded as she flopped onto the bed on her back. Turning towards her husband, she saw him sit on the bed, his back to her. She noticed a few new bruises but much more scarring than what she remembered. Sitting up, she crawled over to him, wrapping her arms around his waist and resting her head against his back. Bruce sighed at her warm arms, and said, softly, "What's wrong?"

"You didn't have this many when I left."

She then unwrapped her arms from around his waist and pushed him down on the bed. She straddled his legs so he couldn't move and began to kiss each one of his scars that littered his chest. Bruce watched his wife intently and when she looked up, Scarlett fixed him with a blue eyed stare.

"I'm sorry. For every single scar you retrieved while trying to find me," she said.

Propping himself on his elbows, Brcue said, "You have nothing to be sorry for."

His hand drifted to her stomach and she smiled. Leaning into his face, she said, "I have a strange feeling that it's twins."

"I'm a bit big to only be having one."

"Have you been to a doctor yet?"

"No, but I am four months, so I suppose it's time."

Bruce smiled before he leaned back and Scarlett burrowed under his arm. As they both layed in silence, Scarlett leaned up to her husbands ear and said, "Have I ever told you how much I wanted to have a rumble in the Tumbler?"

5 months later

The morning started off like any other. Alfred woke up at 7 AM, just in time to give Bruce his coffee and to watch him kiss his sleeping wife on the forehead and then watch with amusement as Scarlett swatted him away. Currently, Scarlett was nine months along and, like she had forseen, was having twins. A boy and a girl. As Bruce left the penthouse, Alfred informed him that Emily had called to tell him that he had a meeting at 8 AM, one at 12 PM, and another at 5 PM.

At 8 AM, Alfred was in the kitchen, reading the morning paper. He was about to get to the weather section, when he heard a loud curse that consisted of "SHIT DAMN HELL". It was Scarlett. Rising from his stool, Alfred practiclly ran out of the kitchen, to find Scarlett standing by the elevator, with a puddle of water underneath. She noticed Alfred running towards her and she said, "I think we need to go to the hospital."

"I think so too."

Seeing as how she was ready for anything, Alfred's jaw dropped when he saw her purse in one hand, and the other to her ear. Noticing Alfred's stunned looked, she smiled and said, "Calling Sofia. Telling her to call Alberto, who will call Emily."

With that, Alfred quickly grabbed a trenchcoat, the keys to the Bentley, and ushered a nightgown clad Scarlett into the elevator. Once inside, Scarlett pulled on one of Bruce's suit jackets. It was October 30th and chilly as sin out. As the elevator began to move down, Scarlett hung up with her sister and began to dial Alberto. He didn't answer so, she began to talk to her brother's answering machine.

"Alberto? It's Scarlett. Yes, I'm doing well. Anyway, just calling to inform you that I'm my way to Gotham City Hospital. My water broke. Yes, call Emily. Love you, too."

When she hung up, Alfred said, "How you maintain being calm is beyond me."

Scarlett responded by puffing her cheeks and breathing out, slowly. The elevator finally made it to the parking lot and Alfred ushered her to the Bentley. Once both of them were inside, Alfred sped off to the hospital. He wove in and out of traffic, causing Scarlett to retort, "Have you been practicing your speeding skills?"

Once they arrived at the hospital, Scarlett's face lit up upon seeing her sister and brother-in-law, David, waiting. The nurse quickly ushered her into a room and she was clothed in the obligatory hospital gown. Between her complaining about induced labor and Sofia shoving ice cubes down her throat, the youngest Falcone was surprisingly ok about a c-section. Her contractions were getting stronger by the minute and Alfred had tried Bruce's office dozens of times. He wasn't answering.

Emily and Alberto finally arrived at 4 PM. Emily informed the rest of the clan that Bruce was trying to get out of his last meeting but he couldn't. Scarlett had cursed up a storm before Alberto calmed her down by saying that he would be there by 5:30 at the latest. So, they all sat and waited. The doctor would come in and out, asking how she was and Scarlett would respond with, "I'm about to give birth to twins. I'm huge, I'm hungry, and I want this to be over."

Finally, at 5:30 PM, the doctor informed her that one of the babies cords was wrapped around its neck. He told her that she would need to go into emergency surgery right away. Scarlett had a small panic attack, since Bruce still had not arrived, before she turned to Emily and said, "I need you to be there. Alfred, you are coming too."

Alfred smiled and said, "Wouldn't dream of missing this."

As they prepped her for surgery, Alberto, Sofia, and David had wished her luck. Alfred and Emily changed into the traditional blue scrubs, complete with caps on their heads. Upon seeing Emily in her outfit, Scarlett had broken out into laughter and continued to laugh as they wheeled her out into the hallway and into the operating room.

"Must be the drugs," Alberto retorted. It resulted in laughter from David and a slap from Sofia.

Once the three of them disappeared into the ER, Sofia, David, and Alberto sat in the waiting room. Finally, at 7 PM, Bruce arrived, out of breath and his tie was hanging limply in his hand.

"Where is she?"

"They took her into emergency surgery. One of the babies cords wrapped around its neck," Alberto said.

Bruce put a hand to his head and he sunk into a chair. Alberto looked over to Sofia, guiltily, before he took a seat next to Bruce. "But don't worry. Alfred and Emily are with her and I'm told the wrapping of a cord can happen."

Bruce nodded and leaned back against the chair, closing his eyes. Across the room, Sofia saw the worry on his face and she excused herself from her husband. She walked across the carpet and shoved Alberto from his seat, causing him to say, "If you wanted me to move, you just had to ask, Sofia!"

Sofia glared at her younger brother before she sat next to Bruce. She tapped him on the arm and he opened his eyes, smiling at her. "Don't worry. When I had Aaron, David was a mess. It's ok to be nervous."

"I'm not nervous, Sofia. I protect Gotham everyday so why would I be nervous?"

"Because having children is much harder than crime fighting. By the way, have you even thought about what you are naming them yet?"

"Scarlett picked the names out. She refuses to tell me because she wanted it to be a surprise."

Sofia nodded before she looked back to Alberto and David. Her husband leaned forward and mouthed, "Tell him about Scarlett's name."

Turning back to Bruce, she said, "Do you want to know why our mother named her Scarlett?"

"There's a story behind it?"

"Our parents were weird. There's a reason behind all our names. Mine was because my mother liked that my name meant 'wisdom.' Alberto was named because my father liked noble and bright for a boy. Our father was obviously on something at the time since my brother is anything but bright."

"Shut it," Alberto shouted.

Bruce smiled before he turned back to Sofia and said, "What about Scarlett?"

Sofia smiled. "Scarlett was named because of our mother's obsession with Gone With The Wind. She read that book at least five times and watched the movie almost every week while she was pregnant with her. My father thought it was a strong name and he hoped that it would fit her well. I don't think he ever thought she would be the exact replica of Scarlett O'Hara. A spitfire, she stated whatever was on her mind, she was a bit spolied but caring towards everyone around her."

"So, where are you going with this?"

"Well, besides keeping your mind off worrying, I'm trying to tell you that what you name your children is very important."

Sofia then stood and said, "Oh and for the record, Scarlett told me the names. The boy starts with a T and the girl with an E."

As she turned and walked back over to her seat, the doors swung open and Alfred walked out. Bruce, Sofia, Alberto, and David stood as the older man walked towards them.

"How is she," Alberto said.

"She did wonderfully. Awake during the whole thing and her humor was ever present. The twins are the mirror images of her and Master Wayne."

"Call me Bruce, Alfred. I hate the whole 'Master' thing."

Alfred smiled before he said, "Would you like to meet your son and daughter."

Looking back to the Falcone siblings and David, who all nodded in approval, Bruce said, "Yes."

Alfred nodded and led him back to the room where Scarlett was. When they reached the door, he heard cooing and laughing. Obviously, Emily was still there. Alfred patted Bruce on the back and said, "Go on."

The younger man nodded before he turned to Alfred and said, "Thank You. For being with her."

Alfred nodded before he walked back into the waiting room. Bruce then turned back to the door and opened it quietly. Scarlett was sitting upright on the bed, looking down at a pink bundle, with a huge smile on her face. Emily was sitting next to her, with a blue bundle in her arms. Clearing his throat, both women looked up and Emily carefully set the blue bundle next to the pink. She then stood and said, "Well, that's my cue."

She then turned and walked past Bruce, giving him a slug on the arm and closed the door behind her. Bruce walked slowly over to the bed and Scarlett's bright eyes looked back at the twins. She carefully picked up the pink bundle as Bruce sat next to her and gave her a kiss on the forehead. Smiling, Scarlett handed him his daughter.

As he took her from his wife, Scarlett said, "Don't look so scared."

"I'm not," Bruce said.

Looking down, he smiled and stroked his daughter's pink face. The girl made a small noise before her eyes opened. They were bright green with specks of brown. Bruce glanced back to Scarlett, who was holding their son.

"What did we name her?"

Scarlett giggled before she said, "We named her Emily Martha Rachel Wayne."

Upon the mention of his mother's name and Rachel, he looked up at her with a bright smile on his face. "My mother?"

Scarlett nodded before she slowly began to hand up the blue bundle. They traded the twins, and Bruce looked down at his son. His eyes were wide open and they were brown, like Bruce's.

"We named him Thomas Christian Wayne."

"Did you plan to name them after my parents."

Scarlett nodded and said, "Rachel had to be included, too. I wanted to surprise you."

Bruce nodded before he rose from the bed and walked over to the other side of it. Scarlett moved over so he could sit next to her. Together they both glanced down at their twins and Scarlett rested her sleepy head on his shoulder. They didn't move, until Scarlett's family, along with Alfred ambushed the room. As the new parents began to pass around their children, Scarlett glanced out the window and gave a small smile to the sky. She hoped that, somewhere, her mother, Bruce's parents, and Rachel were looking down.

Well, there you all are. She had the twins and they became a happy, little, family. As normal as a family for Batman can be.

One more chapter to go, as I said up above. Leave me a review. I like them. Thanks again! If you have any ideas for what fandom I should invade next, lemme know.
