Happy New Year
By Silver Sailor Ganymede
"Merry Christmas Yomi!" Tomo cheered, jumping through the window into Yomi's room just as the clock struck midnight. Even after all these years, that hadn't changed. Then again, Yomi mused, Tomo never really had changed at all.
"Merry Christmas?" Yomi said, blinking in confusion. "You mean 'Happy New Year', don't you?"
"Yeah! That was it!" Tomo laughed, slamming the window shut behind her. "Wow it's cold out there."
"It's New Year's Day. It's the middle of winter. Of course it's going to be cold," Yomi muttered. It was gone midnight now and she really didn't want to deal with this.
"It's 2008 now, Tomo," Yomi sighed.
"At least it's 2008 here. For the Muslims it's 1428, but for the Jews it's already 5768," Yomi explained, causing Tomo to look confused.
"So religious people are all time travellers?" Tomo asked, confused.
"No, it's just that different countries and different cultures have different calenders," Yomi sighed, wishing she hadn't said anything in the first place.
"Well it's 2008 because I say so, and I am Tomo the great and I am always right," Tomo huffed. "Besides, why should I care about calculations? Everyone knows that we celebrate Christmas because Santa was born a little over 2007 years ago, and that that was when they founded Interpol."
Yomi groaned. "Please tell me you're not serious…"
"Of course I am," Tomo replied, blinking innocently. "Why would I not be? Merry Christmas, Yomi."
"Happy New Year to you as well," Yomi replied, knowing that correcting Tomo wuold be a wasted effort. It might have been the start of a new year, but some things were never going to change.
