War of Cards

"One, two, three, WAR!"

Ken and Davis dropped their cards down on the table.

"Aw, nuts!" groaned Davis as Ken scooped up the last pair. "Lost again!"

"It's okay, Davis," said Ken compassionately. "Sooner or later, you'll win. Just trust the cards, and you'll be fine."

"Ken, we're playing War, not Duel Monsters," said Davis impatiently.

Ken merely hummed, and silence fell.

But not for long.

"Your reign is over."

"Excuse me?"

"Ya heard me, Ken. Your reign as champ is over," he announced. "I declare a revolution on you and your winning streak. I promise you that in our next game of War, I'll dethrone you and become the next King of Games!"

Ken laughed. "Who's using 'Yu-Gi-Oh' puns now?"

Davis shrugged and casually replied, "Well, it fits, doesn't it?"

Ken agreed compellingly.

"All right, Davis. You're on."

With that, he began shuffling the deck.

"Well, Ken, what did I tell ya?" gloated Davis and patted his humongous pile of won cards.

"You haven't won yet, Davis," said Ken, glancing at his five remaining cards. "I still have a Joker."

"Doesn't matter; it'll be mine soon."

"We shall see."

They each drew new cards.

"One, two, three, WAR!"

They dropped them on the table and immediately gasped.

"A War of Jokers!" exclaimed Davis, and then, he smirked. "This means, Ken, that someone's luck will change…and it's gonna be mine."

"Don't be cocky, Davis," cautioned Ken. "My luck can change, too, you know."

"Who cares? I came here to win, so draw already!"

Chuckling from Davis's eagerness, Ken picked up his deck.

"It all comes down to this, Davis. Are you ready?"

"I was born ready!"

Afterwards, they dropped three cards face down on the table.

And then, they flipped over a fourth card…

Author's Note: This fanfic reflects how I play "War" in real life. Whenever I play War with someone, both Jokers are included, and they're the strongest cards in the game.
