"Ow, Abby, could you please refrain from touching," Tony said as he lifted his shirt, his back to Abby.
"Wow, Tony, that's hot," Abby said.
"What's hot?" Ziva asked as she walked into the room and Tony quickly dropped his shirt.
"Nothing, I was just showing Abby a bruise that I got from playing football this weekend with some of the frat brothers," Tony said, turning to face Ziva. Ziva narrowed her eyes.
"You are lying," Ziva said, studying Tony. "But no matter, I will find out what you are hiding sooner or later, I always do." Ziva turned from Tony to Abby. "Gibbs wants to know what you have on our missing marine."
"Ah," Abby said, turning to her computers. "I found a foreign blood type on the petty officer's clothes, it doesn't match our suspect."
"Thanks Abby," Tony said, and then followed Ziva out of the lab into the elevator.
In the elevator, Ziva started on Tony again.
"I find it hard to believe that Abby would find your bruise cool," Ziva said, turning towards Tony. Tony turned his head to look at Ziva.
"Officer David, have you not noticed the walls of Abby's lab? She has a picture named 'Brain Splatter, A Really Still Life' and you don't think that she would find my bruise cool?" Tony said, crossing his arms. Ziva used this opportunity to spin Tony around and lift his shirt, revealing a white bandage. Ziva quickly ripped the bandage off and revealed a large tattoo covering most of Tony's back. The tattoo had look of one that wasn't quite finished, but the outline was there. It was a NCIS shield with a date underneath it.
"What is the date for?" Ziva asked as she replaced the bandage. Tony turned back around, a grim look on his face.
"Something important," Tony answered.
"I'll ask Gibbs," Ziva said.
"And how do you know that Gibbs will know what it means?" Tony snapped back.
"Because you had it put below an NCIS shield, so it obviously has to do with NCIS," Ziva replied.
"If you are the investigator that you claim to be, then you should be able to figure it out," Tony replied. This quieted Ziva as she began to think. The year on the date had been 2005.
"Oh," Ziva breathed. The date was in memory of ex-Special Agent Caitlin Todd, who had been shot by Ziva's half brother. "Tony, I'm sorry," Ziva said, following him to his desk. "I didn't realize that it was the date that Kate died."
"Well, you should have," Tony said.
"Should have what?" Gibbs asked, walking through the bullpen with his usual cup of coffee.
"Nothing Boss, Abby said that she found a foreign blood sample on the petty officer's clothes. She's running it now, but she did say that it didn't match our suspect," Tony said, jumping up from his chair.
"DiNozzo," Gibbs said, motioning with his finger for Tony to come. Tony walked over to where Gibbs was standing.
"Yeah, Boss?" Tony asked. Gibbs spun Tony around and did the exact same thing that Ziva had done in the elevator. Gibbs studied the tatt for a moment then replaced the bandage.
"It's nice, DiNozzo," Gibbs said.
"Thanks Boss," Tony said, smiling, but the smile was wiped off his face when Gibbs slapped him up alongside the head. "Ow!" Tony exclaimed, "what was that for?"
"For finally giving in to Abby's persuasion," Gibbs said, smiling.
