A/N: Alright. Yell and scream. I deserve it. But I had the worst case of writer's block ever. Oh yeah and a baby. I had a baby. So that took up a lot of my time. So here's the end.

Chapter Four – Just Do What Feels Right

The Wedding Night

"Inuyasha…" Kagome called from the bathroom of their honeymoon suite. Blushing like mad, she smoothed the fabric of her beautiful lingerie, "Are you ready for me?" She poked her head out the bathroom and saw Inuyasha standing out on the balcony, his back turned to her.

Pouting, she stepped out of the bathroom and walked toward him, "Inuyasha?"

She watched his ears flicker back to her but he didn't move. It was late and dark. The moon was high and she could hear the crash of the waves from the ocean just outside. She stepped out with him and wound her arms around his waist, "We're finally alone…"

"Kagome…" Inuyasha tensed as her arms came around him, "It's been a long day… how about we do this tomorrow?"

"Oh no…" Smiling, Kagome came up around him and kissed him softly. "You don't get to deny your wife her wedding night." She felt his hands gently grasp her waist and when she looked up she again saw that pained look in his eyes. Furrowing her brow in question, she brought her hands up and gently rubbed his ears, "Is this about Sesshoumaru?"

His expression turned dark and she felt his aura flare in anger.

Sighing, she wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him, "I'm sorry I invited him. I didn't mean to upset you."

Inuyasha clenched his jaw. He couldn't understand why she was acting like this was no big deal. It's as if she was clueless as to why he was angry, "Kagome…"

"I know you two have had it rough growing up together, but he's family. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal… I should've asked you first."

Sighing, Inuyasha pulled back from her, "I'm really tired tonight…"

Kagome stepped back and pouted, "But I got all dressed up…"

And then he finally got a chance to look at her and his mouth went dry. The miko oozed eroticism and he couldn't help his body's natural reaction.

She blushed prettily at his look and stepped forward, "I want you to make me yours…" Standing up on tiptoe, she kissed him pulling him flush against her, "Tonight."

Overcoming his anger, Inuyasha kissed her back. She was his and only his. He'd make sure she knew it before the night was over.

Earlier that Day

Sesshoumaru walked down a hall following the faint sounds of giggles and girlish voices. The miko was still planning on marrying the hanyou despite all his interference while they worked together. Perhaps he could change her mind before the ceremony.

Unfortunately, he would not get the chance. Looking up, he saw the reason for his ire making his way down the other end of the hall. He could hear the bridesmaids in the door just to his left. He'd been so close. Well drastic times, call for drastic measures. If she would not call off the wedding, perhaps the hanyou would.

"Oi, what the hell are you doing here, jackass?" Inuyasha casually strolled up to his half brother, a smirk playing on his features.

"Watch your tongue, hanyou, before you lose it." Sesshoumaru said calmly.

"Keh!" Crossing his arms over his chest, Inuyasha walked past Sesshoumaru, "Whatever! Even you can't ruin this day for me!"

Sesshoumaru hesitated momentarily, debating with himself on whether he should continue with this course of action. But as his half-brother continued merrily past him, he hardened his resolve, promises be damned.

"It is fortunate the miko had this Sesshoumaru's aid, otherwise your relationship with her would not have improved."

At that, Inuyasha paused and his ears twisted back towards Sesshoumaru. Trying to ignore the feeling of dread pooling in his stomach, Inuyasha shook it off and started to walk off as he called back over his shoulder, "Keh! You don't know the first thing about relationships. All you've ever done with a female is bed them and move on to the next one!"

Sesshoumaru smiled, "Precisely."

Inuyasha turned sharply and growled at his brother, "Watch your mouth, ice prick! That's my wife you're talking about!"

"Wife-to-be…" Sesshoumaru said calmly, "Nevertheless, your claim to the miko was severed, if only briefly, when our encounter took place." He heard Inuyasha snarl and smirked cruelly, ignoring the alarms ringing in his head saying that this was wrong. Instead, he continued, "During your brief break-up, she visited father's cabin 'to think', if I recall her words correctly. Although that's far from what was done."

Red bled into Inuyasha's eyes and he fisted his hands, "You're a fucking liar. Kagome would never-"

"Oh, come now, hanyou!" Sesshoumaru taunted, "Did it never occur to you how much quieter the miko became after you started seeing one another?" Seeing the look of slight confusion on Inuyasha's face made Sesshoumaru want to laugh but he refrained, instead to smirk at him, "Before our encounter, her faked 'orgasms' could be heard several rooms away! And then afterwards… well, she probably gave you some subtle prodding on where she liked to be touched or nipped… or licked."

Inuyasha's eyes widened and he growled anew, "Shut the hell up, you son of a bitch! Kagome would never touch you!"

Chuckling darkly, Sesshoumaru grinned, "Oh, I assure you, she didn't. It was all very one-sided now that I think back on it. But, it was rather pleasant to watch her. She's a quiet one, unusual for her species." By now Inuyasha was snarling and moving closer slowly, the red almost overtaking his eyes, but Sesshoumaru continued to goad him, "Her small cries are tantalizing… and when she bites her lip…"
Inuyasha paused, his ears twitching agitatedly on his head, "Keh!" He forced out in a sharp bark, "You could be describing any of those whores you slept with. Why the hell should I believe you? I know Kagome, and she'd never do anything with you." Cracking his knuckles at his sides, he turned to continue on his way and ignore his brother.

Sesshoumaru narrowed his eyes. It was time for the finishing touch, "Well, now, there was one thing that was unique to the miko. Just as she was about to orgasm," He paused and watched as Inuyasha halted, ears swiveling back to listen and he continued, "…before her hands fisted in the sheets below her… and before her body arched up off the bed… and before her lips parted in that silent scream of finally achieved satisfaction…" Smiling devilishly, Sesshoumaru watched his half-brother's control finally slipped as he hammered the last nail in the coffin, "Before all that, there was a flush of red that covered her cheeks and bridged her nose… it is very… sensual, don't you agree, little brother?"

The vase from a nearby table broke to pieces on the wall just past the taiyoukai's head.

"I'll kill you, you piece of shit!" Inuyasha lunged forward, claws and teeth bared.

"Inuyasha!" Kagome's surprised gasp reached his ears as he charge forward.

"Don't you know it's rude to attack your guests?" Sesshoumaru taunted.

"Sesshoumaru?" Kagome looked up to see her future brother-in-law sidestep Inuyasha's attack.

Kagome stepped out of her dressing room, pushing past the other bridesmaids who were watching in hushed astonishment. She ran towards Inuyasha and grabbed him by the shoulders, "Inuyasha stop! What are you doing? I invited him!"

Inuyasha shook himself out of Kagome's grasp and gave her a pained look.

Confused, she reached out to comfort him, but he stepped back and out of her reach. "Inuyasha? What happened?"

"Perhaps I should have just mailed my wedding gift." Sesshoumaru smirked at the hanyou and nodded politely at the miko, "I don't want to cause anymore outbursts, after all, this is a special occasion. I will take my leave. Congratulations."

"Wait, Sesshoumaru, you don't have to go. Inuyasha can behave himself." She gave Inuyasha a pointed look as she tried to rectify the situation.

Sesshoumaru paused just briefly to look at her, "It would be better if I left." He made to turn, but looking back once more, he looked Kagome over, "You know, they say it's bad luck for the groom to see the bride in her wedding dress…"

Inuyasha snarled and made to attack again but Kagome stopped him. By the time she turned back around, Sesshoumaru was gone.

Back at the Wedding Night

Kagome moaned softly, pulling back from Inuyasha's lips as her head fell back in pleasure. One of her legs tightened around his waist, the other pushing against the bed as leverage to meet his thrusts a little harder.

Inuyasha complied and thrust harder against her, relishing in the soft cry she let out… until he remembered Sesshoumaru's words, "she probably gave you some subtle prodding on where she liked to be touched…"

His lip pulled back in a light sneer at the thought and he thrust a bit harder. Kagome jerked slightly under him, gasping sharply at the slightly painful movement. Her legs tightened around his waist and she brought her hand to trail down his back, softly. Leaning up, she kissed him under his jaw, "Not so rough… we have all night." She whispered as she kissed him.

Letting his mind blank under her ministrations, Inuyasha instead focused on the beautiful bride writhing in pleasure beneath him. Following her queues, he watched her and again heard his brother's words ringing in his ears as he described her actions in detailed precision. She was close, he could tell, as she let out another soft cry and then bit her lip.

'Her small cries are tantalizing… and when she bites her lip…'

Her brow furrowed as her hands fisted in the sheets below her. Her cheeks were tinged red, the coloring slowly spreading to travel across her nose in her rapture. Lips parting softly, she panted in near release. She was so close. Head falling back, her lips parted in a silent cry as her body arched up against him, taut as pleasure wrought through her body.

And Inuyasha's eyes darkened in fury as his brother's words replayed in his head, '…There was a flush of red that covered her cheeks and bridged her nose… her hands fisted in the sheets below her… her body arched up off the bed… her lips parted in that silent scream of finally achieved satisfaction… it is very… sensual, don't you agree, little brother?'

And he lost it. Snarling, he pinned the girl down beneath him, his youkai taking control to teach her who she belonged to. She cried out in surprise and fear, her orgasm cut short as he thrust roughly against her.

Kagome clenched her jaw in pain and wriggled a hand free from his grasp to push against his abdomen, "Inuyasha!? She cried out in pain as her thighs desperately tried to hold him still. She knew the mating mark would be painful, but this was not what she expected. Maybe this was part of the process, she thought to herself. But this was not right. He thrust harder and growled threateningly and she couldn't help the cry of pain that left her throat, "Please… please… you're hurting me…"

She desperately begged him to stop. But he didn't. And so she held on, believing it was part of the mating process until he finished with a vicious snarl, but without a mating mark.

Present Day: A Few Months After the Confrontation with Sesshoumaru at the Cabin

Kagome shrieked as a splash of cold dirty water enveloped her. Turning quickly, she hurled her hot cup of coffee at the retreating car and smirked in triumph as the dark liquid splattered across the back of it. Unfortunately, he joy was short lived as the rain began to wash off the murky liquid.

Swearing under her breath, she shivered under her umbrella now feeling the icy chill of the cold months seeping into her clothes. Wet, dirty and freezing, she walked a little faster through the streets to try and make it to the subways. All of a sudden the world began to tip perilously and Kagome realized rather unhappily that luck was just not her friend today.

She hit the icy ground with a yelp. Groaning in misery, she closed her eyes and took a deep calming breath, hoping that things would maybe improve for the rest of her day. Opening her eyes, she looked up.

Her breath caught in her throat and her eyes widened in astonishment.

A clawed hand was graciously reached out to her. Pain and dread filled her and her eyes darkened in anger and bitterness. She glared at him, meeting his guarded eyes with evident hatred.

And then the wind blew.

A sharp icy blast worked down into her bones and she shivered from her place on the cold, hard ground.

He arched a brow at her expectantly. Shivering and far from home, she looked at her umbrella that had broken in her fall. She eyed her wet and dirty clothing and felt the numbness that was settled in her fingers and toes. Sighing in resignation, she watched her breath puff before her and finally, she relented. The hatred that was once in her eyes, turned to gratitude and she placed her hand in his, shuddering as a spark of power ignited within her being.

He pulled up into her driveway and she looked down into her lap as she nervously wrung her hands. The drive had been silent save the directions she had given him to take her to her small house.

Now that she was here though, she felt unsure as to what to do next. Courtesy, long ingrained within her, thanks to her mother, seemed to react before she did.

"Would you like to come in?"

Shocked at her own words, she waited for his response.

Without a word, he shut off the engine to his car and unlocked the doors. Heart beating rapidly in her chest, she mentally smacked herself for her brilliant idea and quickly stepped outside the car. The chill of the winter months reminded her of the still damp clothing she wore and she speeded up her steps to her front door, already fishing in her purse for her keys.

The sound of another car door closing behind her reminded her of her guest and she bit her lip nervously as she unlocked her door and stepped inside. Quickly slipping out of her shoes, she rushed across the floor to her thermostat to turn on the heat. Turning she made to start a fire in the fireplace but froze when she watched him already doing so.

It was strange.

Furrowing her brow, she watched him work. Yes, she thought… it was strange, but not entirely unwelcome. She slipped off her coat and hung it up in the front closet. Jumping in surprise, she moved to the side when she felt him brush up against her. His hand reached past her and into the closet to gently pluck a hanger from the rod.

"Umm…" She looked down and realized that she was a mess, "I need to take a quick shower to clean up… Just make yourself… comfortable."

He nodded, his golden gaze patiently bearing into her but firmly stating without words that they would soon be having a discussion. It bore into her, making her uncomfortable as it brought back the memories of their last encounter. She retreated to the bathroom, and quickly shut the door leaning back against it as she tried to regain control of her racing pulse.

She sat down on her couch, clutching a blanket in one hand a hot mug of tea in the other. She couldn't help but recall how familiar this all seemed. As she gazed out her own window from her place on the couch, she frowned at the snow that had gathered on the glass panel. The icy rain had transformed into a powerful blizzard. Warnings had gone on across the television that people should stay inside their homes for the night and wait it out…

Sesshoumaru, it seemed, was going to be her overnight guest.

She sighed and clicked off the television, resting back against the pillows on her sofa and closing her eyes. She could feel the heat coming from her cozy fireplace and was thankful that she was inside rather than still outside in the cold.

"You're quiet."

His tone was just as smooth as it had always been and she shuddered in remembrance of the way her name had once fallen from his lips in the heat of passion. Kagome opened her eyes slowly and turned to catch the taiyoukai's gaze. His eyes were still guarded, just like that night not so long ago.

"I'm still mad at you."

Sesshoumaru never took his eyes off the fire, "I know."

Kagome took a small sip of her tea and shifted to pull her feet under her, "How is Rin?"

Sesshoumaru sighed as he sat back in the chair across from her. Typical… she always had a knack for postponing the inevitable, "She is growing… quickly." He grew quiet as he thought about his once little girl, who was no longer so little. Soon she would be approaching womanhood… how the hell would he handle that?

Kagome smiled as a thought of a young Rin bringing home her first boyfriend flashed through her mind. Unintentionally, her thoughts strayed farther than she would have liked and she soon began to think of her own first boyfriend. Her smile faded and she brought her eyes to gaze at the fire as well.

Sesshoumaru, keenly aware of the miko's appearance, looked up at her. Face glowing from the heat that sprang from her fireplace, she looked almost, ethereal. "What are you thinking about?"

Kagome blinked and looked down into the dark liquid in her cup, "Why did you tell him?"

He was quiet for a moment, "I was angry with my father."

"What did that have to do with me?"

"It had everything to do with you." The subtle tightening of the youkai's jaw would have been imperceptible to almost everyone, except Kagome. She knew him better and she waited for him to continue, "Had you completed the mating and produced a child…" He drifted off and waited silently as Kagome's eyes widened in comprehension.

"An heir…" Kagome's anger returned twofold, "You toyed with my life over the inheritance?" She stood and walked over to the youkai, her hands balled into fists, "I didn't care about a stupid inheritance! I would have given it to you if that's what you wanted!"

Sesshoumaru sighed, "I did not know you, then."

Kagome turned from him and started to walk away.

She stopped but didn't turn to look at him.

"Don't, Sesshoumaru…" She sighed and ran a hand through her hair, "You knew enough."

She heard him stand behind her, "It was never my intention to hurt you."

"And what about when we worked together? All the teasing and flirting? What was that? All that time pretending that nothing had ever happened between us, just like you said, and all that time you were planning on telling him anyway!"

Sesshoumaru growled, "I am not the only one at fault. You reciprocated in kind even being affianced to the hanyou."

She turned and looked at him, "I'm not saying what I did was right, but it never got any farther than that. And then things got so bad after we were married and then you show up out of nowhere! That night at the hotel… You were trying to get me to leave him, weren't you? You didn't think he would have stayed with me for so long, did you?"

Sesshoumaru said nothing, his silence only confirming her thoughts.

"Is that why you checked me for a mating mark at the hospital?" Her angry tirade dropped off to a whisper as she remembered their night at the hospital together, "It was so… different than…" She stopped herself. It was so easy to remember the passion of his lips and the desire in his eyes. The way he handled her was so much gentler… even when he'd almost lost control he was so much gentler than… She must have been wrong. He was just misleading her.

"Things have changed since then."

Kagome laughed dryly, "Nothing has changed! You have the first heir: Rin. You had to adopt a child to get your way. Good job Sesshoumaru, you got what you wanted. Are you going to leave her too, once she signs over the birthright?"

Sesshoumaru growled and stepped toward the miko, ferocity overcoming his calm composure, "Rin is my offspring. She will not be abandoned!"

Kagome's eyes widened not only at his response but at her cruelty, "I'm sorry! I didn't mean-"

"Perhaps I should not have come." Sesshoumaru turned and walked to the closet to grab his coat.

"Wait, you can't leave in this weather!" Kagome looked at the gathering snow outside through her window. The roads were not safe for driving, but Sesshoumaru was putting on his coat and headed towards her front door. Even so, that was not the real reason she didn't want him to leave.

Fear and anxiety overwhelmed her and she grabbed the edge of his coat in her hands, grasping it like a lifeline, "Please don't leave!"

He paused.

Kagome let go of his coat and turned away from him, quickly trying to mask the vulnerability she just showed him. "I mean, you shouldn't drive in this storm. You can stay in the guest room, there's some extra sheets in the closet." She rubbed her arms and slowly made her way down the hall to her room. Stepping in her room, she closed the door behind her and pressed her forehead against the wood. What was she doing? She didn't even know anymore.

She heard the soft thud of another door closing. Evidently he'd taken her up on her offer to stay and was making himself comfortable in the other room.

She sighed and went to bed. It was going to be a long night.

It was unexpected. She heard him snarl. She'd heard him do that before but this was vicious and frightening. She cried out in surprise and fear, her orgasm cut short as he thrust roughly against her.

Kagome clenched her jaw in pain and wriggled a hand free from his grasp to push against his abdomen, "Inuyasha!? She cried out in pain and clenched her thighs around him in an attempt to hold him still. She knew the mating mark would be painful, but this was not what she expected. Maybe this was part of the process, she thought to herself. But this was not right. He thrust harder and growled threateningly and she couldn't help the cry of pain that left her throat, "Please… please… you're hurting me…"

Looking up at him, she could see his eyes were blood red. Inuyasha, her Inuyasha, wasn't with her anymore. She'd seen him lose his composure but it had never scared her. He'd never hurt her. And now, he was doing both.

He thrust hard and she cried out again, her eyes closing shut as she felt the sting of tears forming behind her closed lids, "Please…" She whimpered beneath him, "Please stop…" She pushed again against his abdomen but he quickly grabbed her wrist and again pinned her mercilessly underneath him.

Gritting her teeth, she turned her head to the side and bared her throat, a sign of submission, and did her best to keep from crying as he ravaged her body. Even so, she couldn't stop the tears from sliding across her cheeks into the bedding beneath her.

Kagome sniffled softly, her hands fisted in the sheets of her bed. Her foggy mind was in turmoil and she could feel the hot liquid falling from her closed eyes and drenching her pillow.

"Please…" She whispered, her mind was still wrapped in her dream world and she could almost feel the pain as if it were happening now, "You're hurting me… please…"

As the dream slowly faded into the recesses of her mind, she blinked quickly and looked around her empty bedroom. Sniffling, she cried for a few moments as she waited for the emotion to dissipate before untangling herself from her sheets. Sitting up, she rubbed away the tears from her eyes and tried to dispel the anxiety in her heart. She sighed ruefully. She'd been dreaming about her wedding night haphazardly ever since she'd confronted Sesshoumaru a few months ago. It finally made sense but now that she understood, instead of finally healing that pain, it was as if the wound was again raw.

But she didn't harbor any ill will toward Inuyasha. He was part youkai and what he did came naturally. She knew the risks when she started dating him. In all honesty, it was a wonder that he didn't kill her. He'd only punished her. That fact that she was still alive spoke volumes of how much he'd loved her. And if Inuyasha could have accepted what she'd done, she didn't doubt that his youkai would have marked her without hesitation. But Inuyasha's more human side was what kept that from happening.

She put her feet on the floor thankful for the cool of the wood tile. Rubbing her hand over her face again she stood and opened her door making her way to the living room. She sat on her couch in the dark and watched the embers in her fireplace flicker. The fire must have gone out a while ago.

"Couldn't sleep?"

She gasped at the deep voice. "Sesshoumaru…" She wrapped her arms around herself in an attempt at modesty but then gave up. Not like he hadn't seen it before. Wearing just a tank top and a pair of panties, she pulled her feet up underneath her, "No…"

"Nightmare?" Sesshoumaru mused.

"Memory." Kagome corrected quietly.

"Hn." Sesshoumaru had not been able to sleep either. He was plagued by the miko's dark aura. Her once vibrant soul had so diminished that he could hardly recognize her. He looked at her and noticed her red-rimmed eyes and the occasional sniffle, confirming what he'd heard from her room, "You've been crying."

"Yeah, well, it's not a fond memory." She said dryly as she watched the dying fire and shivered slightly.

Sesshoumaru moved over to the hearth and placed another few logs on the embers. Her reaction to this memory disturbed him. Turning from the hearth, he looked over the miko. She looked worn, like she hadn't had a good night's sleep in quite some time.

"How long have you been dreaming this memory?" He asked quietly.

She closed her eyes and rubbed her hand against her forehead, brushing her bangs away, "Almost every night since I found out."

"Hn. So, I take it, this not so fond memory has something to do with this Sesshoumaru?" He asked.

Kagome shook her head, "Oh, how very astute of you!" she replied. "You and bad memories seem to go hand in hand."

If he were inclined to do so, Sesshoumaru would have rolled his eyes, "I would not go so far as to say our memories together were bad, quite the opposite."

Kagome looked at him, "And I wouldn't go so far as to say that cheating on my husband was a good thing."

"Ex-husband." Sesshoumaru corrected.

Flinching back, as though struck, Kagome lowered her gaze to the floor. She stayed quiet for a little while as her mind wandered back to her wedding night. "You know," she started and looked into the fireplace as the new wood started to smolder, "It finally makes sense… After all this time… We always acted like it never happened, that it never even crossed my mind that you might have told him. I just thought it was because I invited you to the wedding."

Sesshoumaru's eyes narrowed, "You thought 'what' was because you invited me to the wedding?"

Rising from the couch, she looked at him angrily, "Oh, forget it! If you'd have just kept your mouth shut, I would've been mated."

"The hanyou should have marked you as his own on the wedding night, regardless of your past intimacies with me. He did not and by not doing so, he dishonored you."

"Oh, is that what you're going to call what he did to me on my wedding night? And whose fault was that?" Kagome said, her voice rising as she fisted her hands at her sides.

"The fault is his."
"Bullshit!" She yelled at him, "You didn't even care! You're youkai for Kami's sake! You should have known…" Her voice cracked and power surged around him in her despair, "And then, that night at the hospital, you have the audacity to talk to me about broken agreements!" She scowled at him before turning her back and running her hands through her hair in frustration. "You're youkai…" She repeated, softly, sadly, "How could you not have known what he would do?"

Sesshoumaru growled threateningly, "What did the hanyou do, miko?"

"Oh what does it matter anymore! It was your fault! " She was so angry, she didn't even think as her fist came up to strike him. And again he allowed it, gritting his teeth at the slight sting of her power. Her eyes glazed over with unshed tears, "I thought I did something wrong." She hit his chest, weakly, brokenly, "I wanted him to stop… I begged him to stop…"

Sesshoumaru watched her quietly. Her dark aura was due to his own selfishness and now he'd be forced to do something he hadn't done in a very long time. Swallowing his pride, he stepped back from the miko and knelt in front of her. He placed his hands on the floor before him. Bending at the waist, he kept his gaze on the floor and bent until his forehead was touching the floorboards.

The action, so out place for the taiyoukai, so stunned the miko that for a minute she just stood there and stared at him.

A slight popping of the wood in the fireplace knocked her out of her trance and she hesitated, but only momentarily. Her energy that had been crackling around them faded as she knelt down and drew Sesshoumaru up. She looked at him and gave him a short nod.

With that one move, Sesshoumaru felt the darkness of her aura start to recede. She'd forgiven him. She pulled back and looked down at her fidgeting hands.

"Will you do something for me?"

Still kneeling in front of her, his brow raised quizzically at her softly spoken question. After a moment, he nodded and waited for her to elaborate.

Swallowing thickly, she steeled her resolve and looked him in the eye. "Make love to me."

At his even more puzzled look, she shook her head slightly and clenched her jaw, "I mean, just for tonight. Even if it's just fake and… pretend, I just… I want…" She trailed off, not exactly sure how to explain what she wanted, what she'd been craving for years. She'd only gotten a taste of it when they together that night at the hospital.

She heard him sigh, and she couldn't help the blush that rose to her cheeks. Biting her lip, she turned, mumbling an apology. She shouldn't have asked. It was silly really.

"Are you sure?" His words were a deep rumble in the otherwise quiet room, only the occasional crackling of the fire breaking the peace. She looked up, eyes wide and earnest. After all the damage he'd caused, he could grant her this.

Her heartbeat sped up in anticipation, "I'm sure." She nodded quickly and brought her gaze back down to her hands that were pulling at a loose thread on her shirt. Unexpectedly, he reached forward and grabbed the miko into his arms, moving them to lie on the plush rug before the hearth. She lay beneath him, looking up at him as he looked back down at her, seemingly unsure.

"You don't have to-" She started but stopped when he gave her a stern look.

"This Sesshoumaru is…" He paused for a moment, debating with himself on whether he should reveal this tidbit of information to her. Sighing he placed his hand on her waist, his fingers tracing idle patterns across her flesh, "… Inexperienced in this regard."

Smiling softly back at him, she reached up bringing her hand to brush across his cheek before finding purchase in his hair, "Just do what feels right." She whispered, keeping her eyes on his lips as she slowly closed the distance between them.

He returned the gesture much the same as the first time they kissed. Gentle. Soft. Sweet… Almost.

"Sesshou…" The rest of his name came out in a soft moan pressed against his lips. Her eyes closed fully with the rush of sensation he could draw with such a simple action. And she couldn't help herself as she leaned into him, her hands coming up to wrap around his neck.

The hand that had been stroking her waist, now traced across her hip and up to leisurely brush across her bosom. She gasped lightly at the sudden contact and he took the opportunity to trail kisses down her neck.

She leaned back, her hands coming behind her in support as he left a burning trail across her skin. Her heart hammered in her chest as he brought his fingers to hook in the waistline of her panties. Eyes half lidded, she reached down herself and tugged impatiently on his shirt. Growling softly, he pulled back just long enough to pull his shirt over his head before leaning back and catching her lips in a soft but needy kiss.

Eyes closed, her mind starting to fog with a passion that only he seemed to incite in her.

Bringing his fingers to her waistband once more, Sesshoumaru slowly began to drag her panties down, and she watched as the stripes on his face became jagged and his eyes began to streak with red. With a flick of his wrist, he pulled her panties from her dainty feet before languidly trailing his fingertips up along her calves.

Pulling back, her brow furrowed and she gasped when she felt his fingertips trail up further on her inner thigh. Letting her head fall back, she bit her lip to stifle a moan as he trailed soft kisses along the underside of her jaw and his fingertips trailed just shy of where she ached. She knew the air must be heady now with the scent of her arousal.

He growled low again and let out a sharp breath as her hand tugged insistently on the waist of his pants.

"Off." She said, as she too sat up, quickly pulling her shirt over her head and tossing the garment to join the rest. His eyes flashed dangerously at her as she lay there, completely bare, before him, unashamed. Looking him in the eye, she pressed her hand against the hardness she could feel behind the smooth fabric of his pants. They were discarded shortly thereafter.

Pressing her down into the plush rug on her floor, he kissed her again, no longer soft, but rough and insistent. His hands trailed patterns across her skin, fingertips brushing against her breast as he reached down between them. She pulled back, crying out softly when he pushed his fingertips forcefully against her. There wasn't any need to prepare her, but as he watched her arch off the ground moaning softly, he continued, relishing in just observing her reactions to him.

Gasping softly, she blinked in the dark watching the golden firelight reflect in his hair. She knew he was watching her and she found herself blushing beneath his gaze as he toyed with her body and made her cry out in passion.

Closing her eyes, her body bucked, his name spilling from her lips in a barely restrained plea, "Sesshoumaru… please…"
Dragging his wet fingertips across her thigh, he settled himself above her, his hair falling over them like a curtain. She was panting softly, her body yearning for his touch. And he leaned down, his lips gently brushing across her forehead and then softly on her lips. She moaned softly into his kiss as she felt him rock against her, the action planting him deep within her. She cried out, pulling back from his lips but he continued to kiss her along her jaw line and along the sensitive flesh behind her ear. He went slowly, drawing out every moan, every whimper… He groaned under the strain, savoring the feel of her, panting as he moved within her. The way her thighs gently cradled his waist, her blunt nails digging into his shoulder in unrestrained rapture, the way she softly cried out his name…

He thrust harder, feeling her tighten around him as she bit her lip, her hands tightening in the rug beneath her. She let out a broken moan as colors burst before her closed eyelids and that customary flush bridged her nose. And he watched her as long as he could before he felt her fall over the edge and he growled as she took him over with her, both panting as he stilled above her. He let his forehead rest against hers as they both caught their breath. Pulling away gently, he lay down and pulled her back against his chest. He kissed her on the shoulder and let his fingers splay across her belly. They lay, contentedly, together like that for a little while.

Letting out a sigh of satisfaction, Kagome turned her head slightly to look at him, "Thank you." She said somewhat shyly.

Kissing her shoulder again, he began to leave more kisses along her back, "The night is not over…"

Cheeks reddening at his words, she felt something firm pressing against her and let out a startled, "Oh!" And then moaned softly as he moved her hair across her shoulders, his fingertips softly grazing the back of her neck before running down to trace her spine.

He heard her breathy whisper laced with confusion and smirked. He shushed her and turned her so she was lying on her belly and came up behind her, kissing along her spine. And then she felt him push… slowly, deeply and she moaned, her back arching and her head rolling back at his intrusion. She heard him groan behind her and saw his arms flex on either side of her. She closed her eyes and just enjoyed the feel of him.

And so she did… as he took her, again and again and again.

On this night, they both blurred the line between what was real and what was fake.

And neither seemed to care. Whispering their love to one another in the firelight, they held on to each other, gasping and moaning in shared gratification. Telling each other with their bodies what their pride would not let them do with their minds.

The sound of crackling and sizzling stirred her and she shivered despite the heat she could feel coming from the fireplace. It was still dark but the licking flames gave off enough light to set the taiyoukai's hair to life, the usually silver strands reflecting gold. Looking up, she caught his gaze, the half lidded look in his eyes enough to make her shiver again… or it may have been his fingertips that were gently stroking a lazy pattern up and down her back.

"What time is it?" She asked, her voice low and husky with sleep.

"Close to four." His voice too was deeper than usual, although not due to sleep. He hadn't slept, instead opting to watch her and relish in her sweet scent as she lay indecently snuggled against him.

Laying her head back down on his chest, she traced his ribcage with her fingertips absently, "I'm sorry I hit you…"

She looked up and caught his smirk, "What?"

"No you're not."

She smirked and put her head back on his chest, "You're right, I'm not."

He let out a dignified snort and she smiled. She shivered slightly and he reached up to grab a decorative throw on her couch, throwing it over them to ward off the cold.

Both were quiet, neither questioning the ease in which they could lay with each other and watched the dying flames as day quickly approached.

But all good things must come to an end.

The fire died out, leaving just a few burning embers just as the first few rays of sunlight flicked through her window.

Sighing, she was the first to pull back, sitting back to let him do the same. She didn't meet his gaze but simply stood, naked as she was and stretched, arms pulled up over her head.

She heard, more than saw, as he too stood and simply watched her.

Turning back to him, she tilted her head and smiled, "I should start getting ready for work…"

"Hn." He nodded once and watched as she turned and walked back down the hallway to her room. A few minutes later he heard the water from her shower running.

He sighed and gathered his clothing, returning to the guest room before he too started on his own shower in the guest bathroom.

When Kagome was ready, she stepped out of her bedroom and into the quiet of her home. She walked into the kitchen, slowing when she saw him waiting for her, fully dressed and sitting patiently at her breakfast bar.

"I can drive you to your work." He offered, already knowing her answer.

Smiling politely, she shook her head, "Thank you but I'll be fine."

He nodded and stood, "Then I shall take my leave."

She walked him to the door and hesitated before turning to him. Slowly, uncertain of her own actions, she leaned forward and caught his lips in a gentle kiss. She sighed softly against him as she felt him return the gesture.

But as usual, it ended all too soon.

Pulling back, Kagome bit her lip and opened the door, "Goodbye, Sesshoumaru."

He stepped outside and nodded, "Kagome."

She watched as he got into his car and drove away, feeling strangely numb but finally free.

65 Years Later

Sesshoumaru watched from a distance as the family and friends finally started to leave. Even Inuyasha had come to pay his respects and had now taken his leave after nodding briefly in his brother's direction.

The wind slapped at his face, the overcast dreariness appropriate for the circumstance. It took a little while for everyone to leave, but he waited patiently until there was just one left.

He approached slowly, the custom stoicism masking his face. He shuffled his feet a little to make his presence known to the last person who still sat, sadly sitting in a chair, bundled up warmly against the cold.

The old man, turned at the noise, looking up to the youkai briefly before turning back to stare ahead of him.

"She said you'd come." The old man said softly.

Sesshoumaru clenched his jaw but said nothing.

The old man turned again to look at the youkai. Standing up rather clumsily, he turned to face the powerful demon, giving him a once over. He chuckled slightly and shook his head, "Youkai!" He snorted, "Always so proud! Trying so hard to hide what they really feel!" The old man heard a growl and chuckled again, "Quit your growling, you can kill me when I'm done telling you what I need to!"

"Hn." Sesshoumaru knelt before the fresh grave and waited.

The old man looked down at the grave and felt his resolve weaken. Pulling out a handkerchief, he wiped his eyes and turned to the youkai. "We were married for 60 years," he started, voice cracking, "But I always knew that she was in love with someone else."

Sesshoumaru stiffened, but kept his place next to the grave, still listening.

"She was a good woman… a wonderful wife… she'd have given her life for our children…" At that the old man stopped, again wiping his face, "I loved her with everything I had and I know she loved me too… But she also loved you. And she knew that I knew it too. I wasn't mad at her for it. Sometimes that's just what life deals you." Sniffing, the old man cleared his throat and watched as Sesshoumaru stood up and turned his head to look at him.

The old man looked up and watched some friends and family members calling for him. Waving back at them, he turned to Sesshoumaru and sighed. "Anyways…" he sighed and looked down at her grave, "She told me to tell you…" he paused as he remembered her words and looked at Sesshoumaru, "She wasn't pretending."

Sesshoumaru's eyes widened before quickly closing, his brow furrowing.

Done with his last duty, Hojo gave a short bow and turned to slowly make his way back to his family.

Sesshoumaru stayed a while at the grave just until the weather decided to break, releasing a slow but steady flow of snowflakes. Eyeing the grave, Sesshoumaru once more knelt down, his hands coming down to touch the earth.

"Neither was I."

His low whisper was carried off by the wind, the only sound in the otherwise quiet graveyard. Clenching his jaw, he finally relented to his emotion and shed a few tears for the miko he loved.

Centuries Later (Like Way After Sesshoumaru's Dead)

"Watch out!"

The feminine shout caught his attention just as he caught a ball that was about to hit him in the head. She ran up to him from across the field, panting softly. She smiled at him, "Sorry about that! Good reflexes!"

"Hn." His brow rose in disapproval as he handed the ball over to the young woman.

Taking the ball from him, she let out a small gasp at the jolt she got when their hands touched briefly. Biting her lip nervously, she looked up at him and then gave him an odd look, "Do I know you from somewhere?"

The youkai merely stared at her in boredom.

Rolling her eyes, she smiled at him, "Okay, maybe not! Anyways, my name is Kagome! I moved here just a few weeks ago."

She held out her hand.

"Sesshoumaru." He replied.

Reaching out the youkai placed his hand in hers and shook it politely. It would not do well to be rude to new neighbors… depending on how close they lived, of course. Then he noticed something.

It must have shown on his face because she looked at him oddly again, "What?"

Releasing her hand, he shook his head, "Your eyes are blue." He stated matter-of-factly, despite the creeping familiarity that rose up in him.

Chuckling, she turned to head back to her friends, "Thank you Captain Obvious!" Peeking over her shoulder she caught his gaze, clearly meant to show disdain, and smiling at him she held up the ball, "Think I'll get a second chance?"

He peered at her, curiously, "Perhaps." He said after a moment and smirked when she smiled back at him.

"Let's go find out, then. Yeah?" Tilting her head back in the direction of her friends, she invited him to follow her.

Sesshoumaru paused for a minute, the words of his fathers passing through his mind.

Just do what feels right.

"Hn." He nodded and followed her back across the field.

…fin… or…

As they headed home after the game, Kagome looked over to Sesshoumaru, "So neighbor?"

He glanced up at her amused tone and waited.

"What's your number?" She asked as she pulled out her cellphone.

His eyebrows shot up in surprise.

She laughed, "Don't be like that! We're neighbors! So it's just in case I need to text you for anything!"

A/N: The end. That's it! Yay! Sad, I know. But I compromised. I added on the end there for all you sappy people or else she would've just died and that's it. Cuz that's life. It sucks. So, no I will not be writing anything else for this fic. It's over. The End. Kaput! Gone to the dogs! Pun intended!

I hope you enjoyed. Please let me know!
