Sam Winchester stared down at the grave containing his brother's body. Man...you can't be gone, I still need you! Sam's mind screamed. His older brother had always been there, it was hard to believe Dean was gone. Dean's body was lying in the ground while Sam and his father still lived. Sam snorted. It wouldn't take long before the two of them started bickering again. They were only holding off because of Dean. Dean had always been the center of the family to hold them together. Now he was gone.

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher
But I flew too high

Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say

The Impala had been fixed, much to Sam's relief. He could almost hear his brother saying, "Dude, you messed up my baby, do you know how evil that is?" The memory of Dean nagged at Sam constantly. Dean's belongings remained in the car as a sort of tribute to the car's former owner. Sam kneeled besides Dean's gravestone, feeling helpless once more, like he had when he'd been at Jess's grave.

"Son, it's time," John said, putting a hand on Sam's shoulder. The two remaining Winchesters stared at the grave in front of them, it reminded them that family was to come first. But this would be the last Winchester a demon would steal from John. John felt guilt at the thought of not dealing for Dean, but Sam had caught him just as he was trying to leave, and convinced him that maybe Dean would wake up on his own. Sam's guilt had been felt by John at the moment the nurses called Dean's time of death. Now they really had to kill this demon, for Dean and Mary. For the world. Sam stood up and followed his father to the Impala waiting for them in the sunlight.

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know

On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say

Refrain
No!

Carry on my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more

The months passed and the final confrontation came to pass with the yellow eyed demon, who taunted John with Dean's death and Sam turning evil. John had been trapped by the demon, who held the colt and pointed it at him. An apparition appeared behind the demon, wrestling it away from John. It shocked the man to see he was staring at Dean, who looked the same as he had a year ago.

Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
The center lights around your vanity
But surely heaven waits for you

With the demon dead, Sam and John moved forward to stare at Dean, who gave them a very Dean-like look. "Dean," Sam whispered, tears spilling down his face. Dean gave his younger brother a smile before turning to John and giving him a look that John read as, take care of him or I'll kick your ass, dad or not. John smiled. "I promise, Dean." With that, Dean vanished in a white light, letting John and Sam know everything was alright for now.
