Chapter Two: Killing my brother

Author's note: This takes place in "The Avatar State" from Azula's point of view as she is charging the lightning to destroy Zuko. Oh, and because I forgot to put it in the last chapter,

………………………………………………………………………………………………

My brother is lying on the deck of the ship. I've defeated him in combat, just as I've always done before. I've hurt him, both physically and mentally, but I've never even considered doing what I'm about to do.

My arms are moving, charging up that final blow, my lightning attack. I know that when it hits, my brother will be dead. I'm beginning to get tears in my eyes.

I've always been jealous of my brother. Sure, I'm better at Firebending, but he had what I'd always wanted: our mother's love. She always thought of me as a monster, and considering what I'm about to do, I really can't blame her.

I hate my brother, but… he's family. I don't want to kill him, but I must. If only there was some other way… but there isn't. Oh, I deserve to be sent to the deepest, darkest pits of hell for this utterly unforgivable, despicable crime. The lightning is almost finished charging. My eyes have filled completely with tears, which are also flowing down my cheeks. As the fatal charging is complete, I mouth one last thing to Zuko.

"I'm so sorry, brother"

………………………………………………………………………………………………

Our uncle stepped in at the last second to save my brother. He grabbed my arm and re-directed my lightning attack away harmlessly. Then he kicked me off of the she. To be honest, I'm glad he did, even though I got soaked. He saved my brother and stopped my horrible deed before it was done. I only wish I won't have to do that again. I whisper to myself.

"I'm sorry, brother"
