Sakura picked up her bag. After what seemed like a lifetime waiting, she decided enough was enough: she'd leave Konoha to see the world, with or without Sasuke.

Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere

Gaara picked up his backpack. He was sick of his father and uncle always telling him that he'd never amount to anything. He was leaving Suna to see the world, with or without their permission.

Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere

The first stop was a small town in Tanzaku Town. As he sat down, a girl with pink hair ordered a drink at the bar. He turned, and she smiled at him.

"Hey stranger," she said, "where you headed?"

He thought before he answered. "Anywhere."

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

They jumped on the next train out, this time together. It was headed to the Land of Waves, but they didn't care.

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night

As they talked, Sakura couldn't help but stare at his pale skin, the red of his tattoo contrasting sharply with his features.

"So where are you from," he asked, looking at her with sea-green eyes. She took a swig of her water, and looked right back at him.

"Konoha. I'm Sakura."

"I'm Gaara. I'm from Suna."

Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night

"I like you, Gaara. What say we run off to Tea Country? Or anywhere, really. Let's see the world."

Gaara smirked. "Sounds like a plan. Let's do it."

Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time

Gaara and Sakura traveled together for weeks, seeing all there was to see of the five great nations. Together, they soon forgot things like fathers, uncles, or friends. It was a thrill to travel the world over, just them and their passports.

Some will win
Some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Weeks turned into months. Months turned into years. Konoha and Suna soon forgot the pink haired girl and the politician's son.

One day, a train pulled up to a small, dingy platform in Konoha. Wrapped in a black men's overcoat, a pink haired woman with a suitcase in her hand exited the train. She was followed by a man with red hair, wearing a leather jacket and carrying a worn backpack.

"Well, welcome to Konoha," said the woman. The man nodded.

"Do you have anyone to meet you?"

"Hell if I know. the only person I remember is..."

"Sakura-chan?"

A blonde came to meet Sakura. Wearing an orange and black anorak, he came and gave her a hug. Gaara smirked, and introduced himself.

"Sabaku no Gaara."

"Uzumaki Naruto. You're the guy who's been traveling with Sakura, eh? Well, at least someone knew where she was!"

He turned back to Sakura. "Why'd you leave? We were worried sick!"

Hold on to the feelin'

"I wanted to go on a journey," she said. Grabbing Gaara's hand, she smiled.

"I'm glad I did."
