I recently became determined to write a drabble. As a writer of epic fanfiction, I have always had respect for writers who can do drabbles, but the skill elludes me. What I ended up with was a body of ficlets mostly too long for drabble-length but shorter than even the usual length of my rare short fics. Some are connected to my Rediscovered Hearts AU and some are just random. So I'm just going to post each one separately because there's no rhyme or reason to them so it doesn't make sense to do a "collection".

Sniffles

"Is your throat sore?" Janet asked.

Slumped on the edge of bed in the infirmary, thermometer sticking up from under his tongue, Daniel tried to reply. She quickly held up a hand. His eyebrows arched pointedly.

"Just nod, Daniel."

He nodded.

"Mmm-hmm," she said, glancing at her watch. A few minutes later, she deftly pulled out the thermometer and held it up to the light. Then she walked over to medical waste disposal bin and threw it in. That accomplished, she returned to Daniel and began to feel the sides of his throat for swelling.

Across from them, the rest of SG-1 looked on with faces ranging from worried to stoic to…hopeful? Why was Jack looking so eager? Daniel frowned.

"Well, I don't think your glands are swollen," Janet told him, then she frowned a bit herself.
"So, what's wrong with him, Doc?" Jack asked tilting his head.

"Sorry to disappoint you, Colonel," Janet replied as she turned to look at the CO. "No alien disease this time. Looks like Daniel's got a case of the sniffles."

"Darn," sighed Jack.

"Darn…?" Daniel's eyebrows shot up again.

"He lost the pool," explained Sam.

"Pool?" Daniel stared.

"On what was wrong with you this time," Sam related.

"Yes, I guessed that…" Daniel said slowly, his expression shifting to one of profound disbelief. "I just…can't believe there's a pool!"

Jack and Sam glanced at one another, both beginning to look decidedly guilty. Teal'c's expression never flickered, but Daniel knew that didn't mean anything. He rubbed his eyes.

"I'm almost afraid to ask this, but…who won?" he ventured.

At the same moment, Sam, Jack, and Janet all turned their heads to look at Teal'c. Slowly, and just for a moment, the Jaffa's lips curved upward. Daniel closed his eyes.

"You?" he sighed.

"Indeed."
