She is running

A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction

Sprinting, sprinting, sprinting…she had to get away! Away from the X-men, those mutant hunters! Rogue felt fear pulse through her veins as she ran from Wolverine. She had to get away…

She is trying

But the canyon's ever widening

In the depths of her cold heart

Punching the air vigorously, she felt her breathing speed up. In a sequence, she punched and kicked several times. Trying to get the X-men out of her mind, trying to get Scott out of her mind…damn him and his false kindness!

So she sets out on another misadventure just to find

She's another two years older

And she's three more steps behind

Where was she? A house…a house that felt familiar but she knew it wasn't hers. Closing her eyes, she shuddered ever so slightly; it was that football player's home. The one who danced with her. It wasn't her home…did she even have one?

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

Or does anybody even know she's going down today?

Sitting alone in the back of the classroom, she glared through her white locks of hair at the other students. They passed her by, sitting near their friends and laughing. As they spoke, they leaned forward to place their hand on the others arm…their bare hand.

Under the shadow of our steeple

With all the lost and lonely people

Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?

Closing her locker, she winced inwardly. There were too many people talking, walking by and yet…no one spared her a passing glance. Looking towards the ground, she felt the sudden loneliness that had shadowed her for the past few weeks.

She is yearning

For shelter and affection

That she never found at home

"Irene was always a good foster mom but…" She talked to Kurt, who had been wanting to know his real parents. "But what?" Kurt questioned slyly. Rogue turned her eyes downcast.

She is searching

For a hero to ride in

To ride in and save the day

Hatred flared up inside her very soul as she watched Jean Gray hug Scott Summers.

And in walks her prince charming

And he knows just what to say

"Such an angel like you Kate…" Scott read from the play script, not realizing her blush.

Momentary lapse of reason

And she gives herself away

"I-If I say them, will you throw me out of this plane?" She shivered violently, teeth chattering. Logan shook his head, "Not our style kid; we've either earned your trust by now or not."

If judgment looms under every steeple

If lofty glances from lofty people

Can't see past her scarlet letter

And we've never even met her

Never even met her

Scott yanked away, shouting to stop the simulation. There before him, the 'enemy' they had to attack in the Danger Room...was Rogue. What had she done to be treated in such a way?

Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?

Does anybody even know she's going down today?

Under the shadow of our steeple

With all the lost and lonely people

Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me

Does anybody hear her? Does anybody see?

Running, running from the world, from her life. She couldn't take it anymore, couldn't stand it! That was when she stopped suddenly, yelping; there was a car before her. In the car was Scott, who had chased her down.

She is running a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction

Closing her eyes, she turned her back to the X Mansion.
