Tom clasped the hand of his long time friend.
She gave a weak smile.
He rested his head on the bed she laid in.
Her pale face looked to him and she took her hand from his grasp and stroked his head ever so softly.
"Don't worry Tom...I'll be fine...I'll get better. I promise."

Love of mine
some day you will die
But I'll be close behind
I'll follow you into the dark

Violent coughs wracked her body.
Her head slowly fell to the pillow in exhaustion.
He wished he could take away the pain.

No blinding light
or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

Her hand weakly reached for his as another wave of agonising coughs took hold of her body. He held onto her tightly and waited until they passed.
Her pale face was becoming paler every day, and all he could do was watch.

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark

He told her how much he loved her as he held her in his arms. She smiled as best she could.

You and me
have seen everything to see
From Bangkok to Calgary
And the soles of your shoes
are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It's nothing to cry about
Cause we'll hold each other soon
The blackest of rooms

"Tom...I'm dying."
The glass of water shattered into a million pieces, and he ran to her side.
"No..."

If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the NOs on their vacancy signs

That night he carried her through the moonlit grass. There they laid under a beech tree as the stars twinkled sadly at them from the heavens. There she kissed him.
And he held her hand tightly, even long after he had felt it go limp.

If there's no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I'll follow you into the dark
Then I'll follow you into the dark...
