AUTHOR'S NOTES: I detect lack of Watanuki/Himawari fic. Now, though I like DouWata too, I thought I'd do WataHima (or HimaWata) some justice. Before you ask, no spoilers whatsoever…did I mention that this is my first time writing in the fandom?
May be updated with other WataHima one-shots if I get another stroke of inspiration.
Kimihiro Watanuki turned around, and his eyes lit up behind his glasses when he saw who had called his name – but he had already known who it was the moment he heard her voice, the voice that he always loved to hear and would never get tired of.
"Himawari-chan!" he greeted her back, waving excitedly. "I thought you'd gone home!"
"Same here – I mean, I thought you went home already," answered Himawari Kunogi. She smiled as Watanuki quickly took her books and carried them for her as they continued walking. "Oh, thank you very much! But…if it's not too much trouble…I'd like to ask you for a favor."
"It's all right – you can count on me!" he said eagerly. "Just say the word!"
"You mean it?" Himawari asked. "Well…I think I need some help with our homework. I tried going over it awhile ago before I left, but I can't seem to understand anything. If it's not too much trouble, Watanuki-kun…"
Without even waiting for her to finish, he quickly replied, "It's no trouble at all! I'll help you! I don't mind, Yuuko-san won't expect me till later; she said she had some guests…"
"Really? Oh, thank you so much! If there's anything I can do to repay you…"
"No, no, Himawari-chan, it's all right!" said Watanuki, grinning widely as he clutched her books to his chest.
The café down the street was not crowded at all, contrary to what Watanuki had thought. He patiently sat there, watching Himawari as she fell in line and ordered something. With a sigh, he leaned back in his chair. Everything was going well today; he was alone with his beloved Himawari, Yuuko was not ordering him around, Doumeki was nowhere in sight, there was no peep from the supernatural world, and Doumeki was definitely not around…
"Watanuki-kun, this is for you."
"Eh?" He blinked, and saw her slide into the seat in front of him with a tray bearing two slices of cake and two steaming cups.
"For helping me with my homework," said Himawari, placing their books and bags on an empty chair to make room for their food. "I thought you might be hungry."
"Well…I was, but…you shouldn't have!" Watanuki burst out, even though deep inside he was all too excited and honored to be served by Himawari, and that anything she would choose would be good. "I could buy my own food if I got hungry, you're too kind!" he added, flapping his arms and gesturing so ostentatiously that the few customers in the café craned their necks to see.
She stifled a giggle. "Oh, Watanuki-kun, you're so full of energy, even if you say you're hungry. But…I wanted to repay you. Their cake is really nice, and just sweet enough. Try it. Still…I wish I could have just cooked something for you…
"No, no, you always choose the best, Himawari-chan! It's all right, thank you very much!" he answered, smiling as though he had been given a one-way ticket to heaven as he took a bit of his cake slice and began to eat.
"It was no trouble at all," said Himawari, beaming back at him.
