"This isn't going to work." She knows what he means.

"I know."

"Then why are you here?" She raises her head from his chest and grins up at him.

"I guess that I just can't stay away." He doesn't laugh or even smile as she had expected him to. Instead he just watches her with his fathomless eyes.

"This isn't good for you."

"I know."

"I could ruin you."

"You think I don't know that?" He sighs and starts to get up. She sits upright, folding her arms and glaring at him. Then she leans forward, pushing him back.

"Kate..." But his arms are automatically encircling her waist.

"Yes, Matt?"

"No." She kisses him and he kisses back out of habit.

"Kate!" He manages to overcome his instincts and push her back. "This isn't right."

"I don't care, when will you get that into your thick head?! I! Do! Not! Care! I love you for god's sake! I don't care what people think of me! I re-" He cuts her off by kissing her.

"I hoped you would say that." A clock chimes somewhere. "I have to get back to the ship, but please think about this. I'll return, I promise. I love you." He stands, pulling her up with him and presses his lips to hers one last time before vanishing down the steps.

Kate looks down at the object he put into her hand. A simple golden band with a small diamond. She holds it up to the moonlight and it sparkles. She smiles, bringing it to her lips before slipping it onto her finger. He would come back to her. Just as he always does.

A/N: I love the Matt/Kate pairing - but there are no stories whatsoever on here! I was horrified so I wrote this - I hope it does them justice.
